Thanks Skip.I am glad for any comments or suggestions concerning my website.I guess I will just have to be patient & wait until the prices go down.I may have to sell my 5100 if prices don't go down!

That's what I did. I sold my D5100 to help fund my D7100. I couldn't imagine why I really needed two APS-C bodies.

Lafayette Radio. Theres a name I haven't heard for many years. Bought my chimney mount TV antenna from my local Lafayette store. With regard to Refurb, I just bought a refurb 7d and an 18-200 lens from B&H for just over 1200. That's a whole lot less than new.

That's an incredible deal. I am on their website now and they have two 7D with 18-200 1 for $1,247 and the other for $1,539. Both marked "R". When I click on R is says used not refurb. I have never seen refurb with factory warranty go for less than used. You sure you didn't look at the R and assume refurb?

When you search for refurb these come up but they are used not refurb. All refurb from Canon, Nikon etc similarly equipped are the same price with usually a 90 day factory warranty.

just an observation...... prices on current model dslrs won't drop substantially until the newest model has been on the market for a year or two.........unless you get lucky and find a "returned x-mas gift"

D7100 refurbished are still VERY NEW. I would be FAR more likely to go with a D7000 refurbished for $699.

Cameta Camera gives you a year warranty with it.....I always buy refurbished from them! I emailed them a few weeks ago and asked when they would get the D7100 refurbished in and was told after the holidays!

I have been looking everywhere for a good refurbished Nikon 7100 body only & they cost almost as much as the new ones! Why would anyone buy a refurbished, for what I've seen they aren't that much less??

I saved $205 by getting a refurbished D7100 with 659 clicks on the shutter. That might not seem like much when you're talking about an $1,100 camera, but it's still $205. For those who think $205 is trivial, I'll give you my address, and you can send me a check. :D

If I weren't able to find a refurb, I probably would have bought new, but I got what I wanted at a good price.

Madman, I recall LRE with great fondness. The Union Sq store is where I first bought components and made small stuff. Eventually leading to a Bachelors in EE. I still have an old CB radio made by LRE. Good memories.

It's a normal function of supply and demand. The D7100 is too new and may be the only alternative to finding a supplier for a new one.

I wouldn't have anticipated a refurb D7100 to be much less than a new one.

After all, it's been checked out, and fixed or checked of on all functions, which does not happen on all new ones off the assembly line.

There is also the chance it was just too much camera for a buyer and returned to the store.

It's as likely on a refurb that it be new and not used much as that it was a repair. Any camera sold, even if returned immediately cannot be repackaged and sold as new. Those become refurbs as well as dictated by FTC law. The sales are reported and tracked so a merchant cannot resell the camera as new. Refurb it must be.

Maybe in about 6 months to a year, a refurb will be a better deal.

Some listings on Craigslist are asking full retail for used D7100.

And get a camera with the low pass AA filter installed. Sorry, personally, I think the D7000 would have to be somewhat lower in price before buying a camera crippled with a filter that shoots less sharp.

Wow! Lafayette Radio brings back memories for me as well. A high percentage of my spending money as a teenager went to Lafayette in Boston and mail order to Allied in Chicago.

I agree with you on the quality of refurbished goods as well. I have never had a bad experience buying refurbished, and you often get a full warranty as well.

There was a Lafayette Radio near me in Kingston, NY. It was housed in a converted diner from Hyde Park, NY. Hyde Park is where FDR lived, and when Lafayette closed down, a newspaper article said how FDR and other world leaders had eaten in that diner while he was President. The diner/electronics store was eventually moved to who-knows-where.

Marilyn, I am a Canon shooter. I have not followed Nikon - but I bet the same applies. I follow several makers via their newsletters. If you are not signed up with Nikon I would do so. I find that refurbs are a different animal. They are almost counter cyclic. I would most generally buy only from the maker. J. R.

Since I'm considering both of these cameras, the removal of the OLPF is a distinguishing difference between the D7000 & the D7100. DPReview has this to say in their review of the D7100"

"While Nikon has made much of the D7100's omission of an image-softening OLPF, we've found that in practical terms the filter's removal is essentially a neutral move. Under the overwhelming majority of real world usage you get no visible benefit in terms of image detail...."

So I'm curious what your comparisons show, in the "real world"....

Thanks

The best thing is to look for D800/D800E comparisons, that is the closest to an apples to apples test. I think that, between the D7000 and D7100, the OLPF is the smallest factor in IQ improvements.

Don't disagree.

However, the comment I was responding to was comparing the D7000 to the D7100.
