I have been looking everywhere for a good refurbished Nikon 7100 body only & they cost almost as much as the new ones! Why would anyone buy a refurbished, for what I've seen they aren't that much less??

Some "deals" aren't worth it, I agree. I think a lot of the discounts recently have made the price difference smaller.

I would love to see some discounts on a new one,do you know of any? The
ones I've seen are $999.00,still to much for me!

Marilyng: Just checked ebay for used D7100's that were sold in the month of December. Lowest price was $859! I would agree, in this case, buying new is the better deal. There are, however, some good buys on the D7000. Good luck!

the d7100 is a very popular camera, and my guess would be that it's a Supply and demand thing.I preordered mine and been using it ever since.Great camera for my needs and no problems with it so far.Had the other brand and got rid of it about 5 years ago and bought the d60,then the 5000 ,7000,7100 and hinting (not to strongly)for the DF,but she pretends she does hear. Can just keep trying,I guess.Getting back to your post ,if it's not that much more maybe you want to go new. Good luck.

Check out Cameta.com - They offer a lot of factory refurbished Nikon products, either individually or in kit form. For example, the D7100 with 32GB card and some other little stuff sells for $959.95 inc. shipping. As of this morning, they are out of stock but that can change .

As for why buy refurbished, in addition to the price advantage, I believe you get a better product. Years ago I worked for Lafayette Radio in Engineering, Product Service and Quality Control. This is what I learned. Most things nowadays are constructed, built and calibrated by machine - if the machine is off, so are all the products generated by it. Also many times improvements are made during production runs, many times based on the experiences of the technicians who repair the defects. And these people are fanatics about making everything that they touch perfect. Your refurbished camera will likely have all the latest updates and the critical adjustments will be exactly what they should be.

I bought my D7100 from Cameta back in July, actually paid a bit more for it than the current price, but I will state that I am 100% satisfied with the camera and the service. All of my new system; body, lenses and strobe are refurbished.

Enjoy your new camera!

Hi Marilyn. Just make sure it is refurbed by Nikon if you go that way. It will have some kind of warranty for it.

All this is good advice. Cameta is a reputable dealer, as well.

Once the Christmas frenzy dies down, prices will drop; they always do.

Hang in there! It will be worth the wait to get a good deal on a good camera from a good dealer!

If Nikon's Price is $999 refurb and the lowest used price on ebay is $859 what makes anyone think these are going down in price soon. If you want the camera to use and enjoy and take pictures find a way to buy it. Tf that is not a possibility then I believe it will be months before there is any drop and I mean many months. there is no replacement in the wings and looking for deals on Fair traded items will have you chasing the Ryther Cameras of the world getting bait and switched. and there a re a lot of them out there. I know you don't believe this but every authorized Nikon dealer can sell for the same price and they are in business to sell you a camera. Now I completely agree that brick and mortar stores may and will charge more for memory cards, tripods, bags, filters, etc but not, and I repeat not, for Nikon or Sony Cameras, lenses or flashes. I can speak of these from being on both sides of the process. I know of one retailer who checks Sony's website before each sale just to be sure that they are at Sony's lowest authorized price (because it changes often) and they don't want the customer to come back and complain that they saw it lower elsewhere. They want to make sure that they offer Sony's lowest authorized price. I also know for a fact of a retailer who last October (2012) was cut off by Sony for 30 days for inadvertently sell below Sony's MSRP. Nikon has the same controls in place. People don't want to believe it but that's the way it is and other's on this site are acutely aware of it. MT Shooter exposed Ryther for what they are.

I just caution not to jump into any killer deal without checking it out carefully. There are scams everywhere and people keep falling for them because everyone wants that one really good deal. Sometimes things are just the way they are. Continued good luck, Happy New Year.

Lafayette Radio. Theres a name I haven't heard for many years. Bought my chimney mount TV antenna from my local Lafayette store. With regard to Refurb, I just bought a refurb 7d and an 18-200 lens from B&H for just over 1200. That's a whole lot less than new.
