This is a unique question of curiosity and to calculate my odds (and for fun)...
I've seen quite a few posts about people losing stuff due to SD cards going bad, corrupting.. etc... since I have been a member here... and I feel for all of them. That would be awful.
I want to first start with this just to keep me safe.. "Knock on wood"... lol
I have never lost anything from an SD card (I do backups a lot, but that's irrelevant if the SD card doesn't work to begin with when inserted into your computer). How many of you have never lost anything due to an SD card going bad?... literally nothing...ever?
I've never had a problem yet. Wondering how many of you have literally never had an SD card problem that caused you to lose files. I'm hoping a lot of you.

Never for me. But it only takes once to ruin your day.
As a total amateur just shooting for my own sh*ts and grins, if I lost the whole month's images no big deal. I do believe in protecting data and have just bought two 1TB external drives for redundant backup since I have had a hard drive crash, but again I generally download as soon as I finish shooting, so little risk of losing anything important.

That said, if I were to go pro (ain't gonna happen) and was entrusted with preserving a photo record of someone's important occasions (weddings come to mind, of course), then I think it would be a fool who would not invest in backup cameras with dual SD slots (2d shooter optional).

Me either but hopefully it never does, that said, I try to avoid a memory card going bad by buying a name brand like San Disk. But I also realize that no matter the brand or card this can happened to any of us.

I've never lost anything on either a SD ora CF card, but I sure have lost photos on my computer. I don't get too much bent out of shape about it. It just gives me an excuse to go out and shoot them again and I enjoy that! ..... Coot

I have lost anything from a memory card. I download at the end of the day and reformat in camera.

I use CF's, and have never lost a file.
I've used the same 6 CF's since I went digi 5 yrs ago.
I take them out to download and very rarely format.
They have been very reliable, knock on wood.

Never lost a thing (I didn't intentionally delete) since going digital c.2003, includes CF and SD cards and Sony sticks!

I never lost a file; but the other day I was shooting a basketball game and in the middle of the shoot, I got an error message. Said the card was not functioning. I took it out and reinserted it. No problem after that. Files on the card before error message were fine, and the card is still working flawlessly.

I had a CF card fail a couple of days ago.... first one ever in many years of digital and countless thousands of images. It was a premium brand purchased from a reputable photography store about 3 years ago. I down-load immediately after each shoot and always format in camera before use.

Fortunately I use a camera which has two cards (SD and CF). Very fortunately the second card (SD) was configured in back-up mode so the day was saved.... much sweat though as I down-loaded that second card.
