C'mon, Jerry, what's wrong with the way we used to do it?
DOS prompt
Format C
Reinstall all 40 megabytes on your hard drive.

You can see above what Search showed me about ViewNX. Yes, I do have a J drive. I'm not going to do any more with this. It's not worth the effort. It's not like I need ViewNX, but I thought I'd install it a give it a try. Thanks for your help.

My 2.8.1 version got buggy and wouldn't recognize all the images in the folder. I uninstalled and stripped it off the registry (every reference to ViewNX 2) and installed an older version. So far it works OK but I can't associate files to it and I could before.

Forty megabytes! Yeah, sure. Who's gonna be able to use that much storage? :-D

How many removable drives do you have? I'm sure you want to put it on C:\ so in the installation wizard put it in C/programs/ViewNx. That's where you should be putting all your applications anyway. If you need to create a new folder in Programs. I'm sure the software uses your machine's root is C:/ and when it looks for the install directory, it looks in C:\programs\

Hi Jerry you could try right click on J drive and either select disconnect or eject.

It's a USB drive port, and it doesn't want to go anywhere.

The problem is the computer thinks there is a copy of ViewNX on a removable drive, and to do the uninstall, it wants me to insert a disk into the drive, which in this case is a USB port.

I wouldn't install the ViewNX until the old one was removed.

I'm sorry, Jerry. But I don't know anything about writing computer programs (let alone how to fix them). But I do hope you get it fixed! :-D

It's not worth the trouble - just another example of a computer glitch. It wants to remove a program that isn't there.

Were you trying to put both the 32 and 64 bit versions on the same machine? What is your machine and which version gave the error?
Have you talked to Nikon?

Dell Core i7, 16GB RAM, one year old. 64-bit. The problem is that before a new version will install, it wants to remove an older version that isn't there. Stupid computer!

I downloaded the latest version, 2.8.1, of ViewNX, both 32 and 64-bit. When I try to install either, I get this error message. Any ideas? I've downloaded it several times into my Downloads folder.

EDIT: More info. I currently have one version listed as being installed. When I try to install the new version, it wants to uninstall the old one. That's where the error message comes in. The strange part is that I can't find ViewNX anywhere on my computer, although it is listed in the "All Programs" list.

EDIT: I just deleted the ViewNX from the All Programs list. Apparently, the computer was looking on the J: drive, whatever that's supposed to be, to uninstall. I still get the same error message, though.
I downloaded the latest version, 2.8.1, of ViewNX,... (show quote)

As far as I know Error 1324 is a Windows error and not NX. It usually is related to corrupt, missing, or broken files. This causes an unstable computer. I believe you will need to get some sort of Error repair tool and do a scan of your computer. Good luck.

Second reply. If you downloaded an upgrade or update to NX it will look for a previous version. Try downloading a "full version" of NX and do the install.

Editing the Registry might work, but I don't want to get into that.

Be careful editing the Registry directly. Here's the concept I'm working with . . .

If you successfully uninstall the older version of ViewNX, through the Control Panel, then any Registry entries for that program become obsolete. Since the program is not installed, there is no purpose to those entries.

Running CCLeaner on the machine checks the installed applications against the Registry entries. If there is no ViewNX installed, CCleaner will report back to you that there are Registry entries for ViewNX and ask you if you want to clean out those entries. Say YES, and any entry that indicates anything about ViewNX will be removed.

Just so you know, if you've never run a Registry cleaning utility on your machine, it might find hundreds (thousands ??) of entries that are no longer valid and ask if you want to delete them. Just say YES. I've used CCleaner for years and it has worked without fail.

I ran CCleaner, and it corrected a bunch of what it considered errors.
