In this case it's actually Shift F which will do the trick for the OP. F just goes from the normal mode to full screen. Shift F will have to be hit twice to get back to "normal" if the menu bar is showing on top without the minimize and close button bar above it. This is on Windows, not sure if Mac keystrokes would be different.

it very may well on your's. but when i hit the f button 3 times i get. i get 3 different modes. you might give it a try will see what i'm saying. never touch shift key. the X goes away an comes back with out shift.

You didn't read my later post where I said:

"The key strokes don't usually change much from version to version. Try it out yourself. It's either going to be F or Shift F depending on the version."

I understand that. My first response was based on the only copy I had loaded at the time, LR5. I had uninstalled LR4 after I was happy with the LR5 install. My second response was based on checking further and realizing that this was one of the few Keystroke combinations that changed from LR4 to LR5. That post was intended as a clarification for users of LR4 and LR5. For LR4 this issue is resolved hitting the F key, on LR5 it is resolved with Shift F. I'm not sure of the purpose of this continued debate on the subject.

use ctrl/ will show most short cuts, in each mode you are in at that time.

Maybe you (and others, including me on occasion) should make a habit of reading through an entire thread before replying.
