My son bought a new D3200 a few weeks ago on my recommendation, and had the same problem. He called Nikon Customer Service and they handled it right away.

I called Nikon customer service, and the game commenced.

The rep did not know much of anything about NX2 or reference manuals and had to leave the line repeatedly (probably to ask someone). It finally turned out she did not know if a separate version of NX2 was provided for each camera, and I needed to download both, or if one was a later version and should be the only download. She had no idea what Nikon was asking for when they asked for a number prior to downloading (which I had not seen anywhere in the docs, had never heard of, and did not have) and could not tell me if this impeded the downloads of the manuals and NX software.

After a long absence from the phone, she told me she would immediately email me the appropriate files for download and assured me there would be no problem with download or installation.

It's been more than a week, and nothing has arrived from Nikon.

Does anyone know what's going on with Nikon?

I used Canon DSLR's faithfully for 10 yrs, but still couldn't get that 'sharp photograph' consistently and after 5 yrs each camera I thought seemed to lose quality of image. So I jumped ship, got a 5200 with a couple of Nikon lenses and am happy as a bug in a rug! I will get back after 5yrs with a Nikon update. Maybe the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence...a scientific study was done with wavelengths of light and it was found the grass really was greener. (LOL!)

I've invested thousands of dollars in bodies, lenses, flashes, software and all kinds of Nikon gear and I'm just about ready to jump ship to either Canon it better yet, Fujifilm X100s. They just don't care or get it anymore...
If I wanted to throw away money, I would have stayed with boats !

Just go to:

http://www.nikon.com/news/2010/0817_viewnx2_03.htm

And download the latest version of NX2; it should work with both cameras.

Never had a Nikon - but it could explain why there appears to be so many more people with Canons than Nikons!

Print runs. My company prints the advertisements you find in your newspaper for Nikon. We do this approx 12 times a year. Each time we order from Nikon is considered as a print run. So, we have 12 print runs scheduled for the year.
1 print run is approx 18mm advertisements printed.

In one of Nikons brighter ideas, they decided to centralize there American operations with a call center in San Salvador so the person on the other end of the line doesn't actually know anything about photography or even Nikon products, all they need to know how to do is answer the phone and read from a manual.

Well, I have to agree with you regarding Quad. Congrats on your windfall, and having an out from that evil print world. LOL.
