I am beginning to agree. I am new to digital and chose Nikon because I had always used Nikon film cameras and loved them. Thanks to all for your info re dealing with Nikon download and customer service. :D

I'm with you on the carry-over from Nikon film days. However, if you send a pro out with a Nikon and then a Canon, he'll get equally good shots with both. Whenever there is a comparison of N and C, there are plusses and minuses for each. I read about how fantastic the 5F MK III is, but I know that if I had one, I wouldn't be able to take better pictures than I do with my D600. I have an SX50, and some Canon P&S, and I much prefer the Nikon menu system, but that's a personal thing.

As for the SX50, that's not that far beyond Nikon's 42X bridge camera, which had the longest zoom at one time.

No one has to feel bad about "settling" for a Nikon.

There is a separate help option for Nikon software when you call Nikon.

On the back of my Nikon D7000 manual is a number.
I typed the number into Google and immediately got the DX7000 manual in pdf form.

a friend who had been in film photography and used the Contax cameras and Zeiss switched to Nikon and advised me if ever I was going to change brands that Nikon was the one to go with and that their service was terrific
that Nikon glass is very good AND I get can Zeiss lens to go with my d3000
I have been more than happy with Nikon Canada

IMHO Nikon DSLR controls are much more intuitive than Canon, but that's just me.

I bought a new D3200 and a refurb P510, and was unable to download the reference manuals or the ViewNX2 program disks. Also, I was unsure which NX2 belonged with which camera because the programs thereon were different versions.

I called Nikon customer service, and the game commenced.

The rep did not know much of anything about NX2 or reference manuals and had to leave the line repeatedly (probably to ask someone). It finally turned out she did not know if a separate version of NX2 was provided for each camera, and I needed to download both, or if one was a later version and should be the only download. She had no idea what Nikon was asking for when they asked for a number prior to downloading (which I had not seen anywhere in the docs, had never heard of, and did not have) and could not tell me if this impeded the downloads of the manuals and NX software.

After a long absence from the phone, she told me she would immediately email me the appropriate files for download and assured me there would be no problem with download or installation.

It's been more than a week, and nothing has arrived from Nikon.

Does anyone know what's going on with Nikon?

I think you need to register your purchases before gaining access to the manuals.

I think I've had it with Nikon too...
I've invested thousands of dollars in bodies, lenses, flashes, software and all kinds of Nikon gear and I'm just about ready to jump ship to either Canon it better yet, Fujifilm X100s. They just don't care or get it anymore...
If I wanted to throw away money, I would have stayed with boats !

What's been your problem? I understand that Nikon handles repairs rather expeditiously.

Some people go to work and provide the service needed and earn their paycheck. Others go to work just to receive a paycheck.

Don't know why you'd say that. This isn't the gallery.

Confusing to some. General chit-chat (NON-PHOTOGRAPHY TALK)
If they can't get this right I don't register their opinions.
