Still on my "go back again list" is Antelope Canyon. On the Utah/Arizona border. Highway 89 Detour -- If you are coming from Grand Canyon South Rim (how could you take a road trip from Texas to Oregon and NOT see the Grand Canyon eh?) take East Hwy 160 then West Hwy 98. Google Antelope Canyon for inspiration!

Great Cats World Park and Wildlife Safari are great suggestions. I've been to both, thoroughly enjoyed, and took tons of photos.

When traveling the length of CA #5 has got to be the worst -101 is next - but there are 2 or 3 great drives: Naturally #1 is fantastic.
next going No.to So. I would take #89 from Weed down to #395 south through Owens and Death Valley. Or #89 at Weed to #49 and down through the Gold Country to Angels Camp and then jog back east to Yosemite Park and over Tioga Pass to #395 and South.
These routs will give a massive divers amount of photo ops.
