I am looking for opinions on different 'shirt pocket ' or a little larger 'super zooms' or compact lens system cameras.

I fly every day for work and want something to slip in the flight bag. The Leica M9 is the dream..but that is all it will ever be. Just bought the EOS 5DIII and a rack of L series lenses, so no more big spends!!
I do sometimes take the 5DII , but can't carry it and lenses in the cockpit.

So here is what I want:

Small compact..

RAW images

Full manual control
AV
Tv
Bulb
Tripod fitting
Remote (both wired and wireless nice). ( so I can use Intervalometer)

Fixed 'built in zoom' or Lens system.
Canon EOS M mirror-less would be too big.

Living on a small island ( Jersey) I have one store I can look in and they have a small range of cameras to look at.

Online research can play a part but just not as useful as searching in shop.

I don't know anything about the Fuji or other cameras some have listed here, but I use an Olympus EP-2 micro 4/3 when I don't want to drag along my 5dmkII.

I does and has everything you list here I believe. I shoot in Raw, great lens selection (I use the small pancake lens so it will fit in my pocket), has a detachable optical view-finder that can be used instead of the digital screen, and have had great results with it.

This was one of the first generation EP bodies and I know they've just come out with a #5, but I haven't looked at it yet.

You might want to check this one out. Been great for me.

Fuji X-Pro1 the Leica killer.
Or XE-1, smaller, lighter, same IQ.
Check out;

I am actually resigning myself to the fact that at the moment there is not a camera out there that has all the specs I would like in one camera, so I do not think I will be buying anything at the moment.

No point in buying something that is a compromise. I already have three different camera, no sorry, four...all good enough but all not exactly what I would like for my every day flight bag camera.so no point in buyign yet another that is not quite right.

EOS 5D 3
Lumix FZ-50
Olympus 770 and
iphone

Just trying to find the 'ideal' for a particular work situation. If I can't find then I have enough other choices

You know canon and their menu system. Stick with canon. See the DP review on the new Powershot G15 it does everything you want gives great images and will fit in your pocket. On top of all that it has a view finder so you don't have to hold the thing 12 inches from your face.

I would think the Canon sx50 would fit all of your needs.

type Canon sx50 in the search box and you will find a lot of very good photographers on here have picked up this camera and have had outstanding results with it...

If the Leica is your dream, why did'nit you buy it instead of the MIII and the lenses?

It sounds like the M9 is for you. Fuji comes closest in my opinion to Leica specs and some say you get everything but that red dot with the Fuji. Good hunting.

How about the Sony Nex line. I have the NEX-7 and just about every lens they make for it (including the 18-200mm zoom). All of it including an HVF-20 flash, extra cards, cleaning kit, etc. all fit into a small backpack along with a back-up NEX-5N (& optional EVF viewfinder).

Well, something small & compact (shirt pocket) would be a Lumix SZ-7 or similar, but doesn't meet much of your other requirements.

Canon SX50 would meet all qualifications except 'shirt pocket'

Well, Just get a shirt with a little bigger pocket, and never look back.

These are the NEX-7 with the Carl Zeiss 24mm wide angle and the HVL-F20AM flash attached. The coin next to the camera is a quarter included for size comparison. Most of the lenses are about the same size except for the 18-200mm zoom which is a big boy but still quite manageable. There's also a 55-210mm that's lighter and a little smaller if you can find it.

I love my Canon SX50 - it is all but shirt pocket read - the zoom is amazing!
