I would not suspend JR1 I don't believe he meant it in a malicious way, and as one of the other responders said he has been quite civil lately.

I suspended JR1's account for posting a re-edit while the OP specifically asked not to do it.

JR1 is telling me that, on the contrary, the OP asked him to post a re-edit.

To me, the statement "no that is ok. I am good" in that context means don't do it.

Is it some kind of language difference? Would a reasonable person in the UK assume that that statement actually means "go head and post?"

To be honest with you much of the time I would be the first in line to punch JR1 in the nose, however in reading the posts, I don't think he did anything wrong. The OP's reply in my opinion was not at all clear and could easily be taken either way.
I don't think it is right to punish JR1 over a request that is completely unclear and does not convey the OP's wishes.

Is it possible to ask the poster in question which he meant? Rather than stir the pot until every one of us has piped in, whouldn't that be simpler?

That would not be fair. If the request did not convey the OP's wishes how can you hold someone responsible for the intent of a nonspecific request.
If someone who spoke another language than you do asked you to please pass the butter and you did not have any idea what the person said, why should it be your fault if the person has no butte for their toast?

Why is it that JR1 seems to be at the root of controversy alot ?? He has good advice at times albeit opinionated but maybe this little "time Out " may do him well

I think you should cut him some slack.

There is a language barrier, that's cause the "Britt's speak English", "everyone else speaks American".

Over the last week or two there has been an obvious change in JR1 in a nice way.

So from Wabbit that has bashed the heck out of JR1 to Admin, I think you should let this misunderstanding slide and put his account back up.

I decided to do something about this in private, but, since it has been made public I will add my twopennyworth. I PM'd admin and the poster, Kelly (overthemoon). Here's what I sent to both admin and Kelly.

Admin,
I t has come to my attention that you have disqualified JR1 from the site because of his actions regarding a post by “overthemoon”.
Having carefully read and re-read the thread I think you are mistaken to have acted as you did, and want to ask you to re-instate JR1.
It is abundantly clear to me, from the flow of the thread, that overthemoon did NOT make himself clear to JR1 regarding allowing a photo to be amended. Indeed JR1 understood it to be just the opposite, just as I too have done.
The problem has arisen as a result of overthemoon’s punctuation. Here’s the flow, and my own comments in brackets ......
JR1 – “I have an example, but won’t post without your sayso”. (An honest and respectful request).
Overthemoon – “no that is ok. I am good.” (As it’s punctuated I read that as saying “that’s OK. I am good about your posting it”. I think that’s how JR1 interpreted it too).
JR1 – “I will remove if you say” (another respectful comment from JR1 to the poster)
Further complimentary comments to overthemoon from JR1 “It’s a great shot, what gear did you use?” and “+100%, you can even see the detail in the claw” and “OK looking again, yours is more natural” - (Evidence, I believe, that JR1 has read overthemoon’s comment as I read it, and NOT as overthemoon intended it. Misinterpretation based upon the poster’s punctuation. Easily done, whichever country you are in or version of the English language you use.)
Overthemoon then answers the question about his gear, and makes no mention at all about his concerns over JR1 posting an amended photo.
Overthemoon – “Don’t do that remove. I will have to stop posting etc” (Again, because of the punctuation and choice of words it is very easy to read that as “don’t remove it”. If the poster wanted JR1 to remove his picture he could, perhaps, better have said “Don’t do that. Remove it”. He knows what he’s trying to say, but has twice now not made himself clear.)
ONLY NOW, to me, does overthemoon finally make himself clear .......
Overthemoon – “If I wanted to make changes I would do it myself. I use lightroom. Please don’t take the photo and change things. You asked if you could and I said no”.
(Then someone else sees it as I do .......)
Wendy2 – “Please don’t go away! He made a mistake.”
I think you have been more than unduly harsh on JR1. We are English. This is a world-wide forum and overthemoon is not the first, nor will he be the last, to not make himself clear and thus become open to misinterpretation.
I therefore respectfully ask that you re-instate him.
Geoff Crossley (craggycrossers)

So far only Kelly (I discovered only at this stage that overthemoon is in fact a woman) has responded to my PM. This is how she responded to my approach to her :-

I can see how my message got confused. I discussed this with my husband who is great with the written word. I wrote more like I talk. my message was to be. I am ok with my photo and don't need changes. I kept it short and that was not interpreted incorrectly. I will write admin.
I sent you another message. I can't seem to find admin. If you wish you may forward my comment to you to admin.

Kelly overthemoon

I sent a message and I hope JR1 will be re-instated. Thanks for your message. I will in the future as well be more clear with my written words. I am also dyslexic so I tend to keep my messages short.

overthemoon

I think the way forward is pretty clear.

I would also like to add my personal disappointment that I have not, as yet, received a reply to my PM from admin.

Well, I'm really glad someone took the time to contact her. However, even though she did tell him not to do it, I think HE may have misunderstood and did not intend to be malicious about it. Has anyone asked him his intent?

Leave it alone .... please. I could also list here the details of the many emails that have passed between JR1 and myself today. Suffice it to say the guy is IN TEARS !!

It was a genuine misinterpretation by JR1, and the part she played has been acknowledged by Kelly.

Time to END this whole thread, reinstate JR1 and those of you who revel in other's misfortune, lack of knowledge or ability to properly express themselves I suggest you all go LOOK IN THE MIRROR - this could have so easily been YOU !!

Graggy:

Agree with you 100%. I have not seen eye to eye with some of the post by JR1 in the past, but I truly believe this was a misunderstanding. I think there is a lesson here for all of us to learn from.

You're entitled to an opinion ..... but yours is an American opinion based upon your own knowledge of our language, ability to understand punctuation, and the way YOU interpret the words you see. JR1 is English, speaks the same language as you, but perhaps interprets the words differently. I'm English too, and I do not see any CLEAR message that she means "no" until well into the thread. Perception is all that counts ...... and there are many, many who do not hold the same perception as you. Even Kelly has acknowledged her dyslexia. Give the guy a break !!

Look at the picture...... and tell me what you see .....

Perception .... what do YOU see ?
Perception .... what do YOU see ?...

... just my twopenny-worth ....

...some in here speak English English and others speak American English... I have had this problem for years.. I don't think for a second (on this occasion) that this was anything more than a language difference... a simple misinterpretation .

reinstate JR1... I'm positive that he didn't do anything wrong intentionally.
