This coming September my wife and I are going to visit the Maine, Cape Cod area for the first time. We are hoping to do the lighthouse tour. Seeing your pictures got us thinking about it. Thanks for posting. After a few days in Boston we will head north to Portland, Maine. We will be staying a stones throw from The Portland Head Lighthouse. Looking forward to this trip. Suggested photo opportunities for these areas are welcomed.

In October of 2009 my wife and I were attending a Lighthouse conference in Alpena, Mich and I saw exhibited there a picture of this lighthouse. I took a map and we decided to visit the new day. What we didn't know was you had to drive to country road 412 which was a two track road 25 miles north of Paradise, MI. It had snowed the night before and there was a storm coming in from Lake Superior. When I tried to duplicate the picture I realized the lighthouse and shore had been restored by a lighthouse preservation group. This is my favorite picture taken by a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5.

stevetl, I just want to say I appreciate your rendition. You drove a quite a distance, it was freezing and a storm brewing off of Lake Superior. I think your colors are more in sync with what you saw and the mood of the day & weather. You should be proud of this capture.

There were at one time over 250 LH's on the Great Lakes. The current number is 124. I've been to over 1/2 of them via land, trail, kayak, or canoe. A real treat if they happen to be open to the public for a view from the top.
