Should you vote for your own photo in the contests?

I almost missed an interesting discussion about this because subject line refers to "leading lines" contest being closed to new entries.

The link with comments about voting for your own photo is below. Please share your thoughts here on why or why not you would vote for your own photo. It's very easy for me to say why I don't vote for my own: there are always at least 10 that are MUCH better than what I entered!

Well, for some reason you must want me to comment on this subject since you pm'd me the link.

I had the discussion on St3v3M's thread. I never said that I voted for my own shots if that is the reason for getting me back into this. I agree with the last poster on that thread. If I see others much better I take stock of it and evaluate how I can improve.

But, having said that I do not know why someone couldn't or shouldn't vote for themselves. It will all show in the end. If no one else voted for them or too few to win, that should tell them to re-evaluate their work and try to improve. But I don't look at a great shot that should win and criticize that person for voting for themselves, if they did. Their is no monetary prize here. Voting for yourself is not cheating. I, too, feel there is always someone better than me that deserves the recognition.

I was opening up discussion. Not trying to have a label placed on me.

I would generally not vote for my own image, however, the last time I offered myself a bribe that was simply too good to refuse!

If I thought my image was worthy of my vote sure I'd vote for myself. Make it simple and vote for whatever image you think is best regardless of who took it.

When I was in fourth grade, there was a vote for some kind of class office - me and another guy. Like a dope, I voted for him, and he won by one vote.

You have to ask yourself why you would vote for any image. If you are supposed to be voting for the best photograph on display, will yours fit that bill? If you think it does, then vote for it.

Of course, IF everybody voted for themselves there would be a big fat tie for first. Are there more voters than photos? If so, that means that people are voting that are not in the competition and keeping it fair.
I have never participated so I don't know. If I participated and after all entries were in and I felt stronly mine was the strongest, sure vote for your own.
Just vote the rules. If it becomes a problem, simply change the rules.

It hasn't been a problem and I fully believe it never will be.

OMG tk, no, you misunderstood me! I PM'd all the participants of that discussion in St3v3M's thread and opened this new one because I thought what I'd read on there was very interesting and I was curious about more opinions. I can't imagine why you think I put a "label" on you. Your comments were very thoughtful and interesting.

Only 10? You are lucky! I think the contests are fun to see the ideas people come up with. Don't care who wins.

When DPC and DIC existed they used a pool of ten judges changed every month to make the contest fair, Man those were fun sites!

I'm not familiar with those. This is firs forum/website I've ever participated on. A pool of judges definitely sounds interesting.
