There will always be at least one better than mine, and I'll always vote for it.

Seems like the first vote "for yourself" is when you post the photo.

I almost missed an interesting discussion about this because subject line refers to "leading lines" contest being closed to new entries.

The link with comments about voting for your own photo is below. Please share your thoughts here on why or why not you would vote for your own photo. It's very easy for me to say why I don't vote for my own: there are always at least 10 that are MUCH better than what I entered!

I haven't entered a photo yet that I thought anyone would vote for over the other really great shots in the contest, but even if I did, why would I vote for my own? I already know what I think.

I would generally not vote for my own image, however, the last time I offered myself a bribe that was simply too good to refuse!

Linda, I'm not sure to which thread I should post my answer, so I guess I'll cut and paste this answer to both threads. I have always had mixed feelings about whether or not it is appropriate to vote for myself (or, in this case, my entry). Consequently, I have always chosen to recuse myself as a judge or voter in any contest in which I have a personal stake. For that reason, if I enter a photo in one of our contests, I simply will not vote in that contest.

When DPC and DIC existed they used a pool of ten judges changed every month to make the contest fair, Man those were fun sites!

I'm not familiar with those. This is firs forum/website I've ever participated on. A pool of judges definitely sounds interesting.

Yes, I like the pool of judges idea too. But, I think it should be in addition to UHH member voting. The judges could have a weightier vote. That way everyone would still go through all the photos and look at them to vote. I think that's important. I learn so much from seeing what other people do, good and bad. But if the judges had some say, then it would be a guideline of what to shoot for in your photos. And then if the judges didn't mind, it would be great to hear why they voted the way they did! Oh, I love this idea!

Well, Maybe some of the really experienced people here would want to volunteer, and then admin could approve them?

This is all theoretical at the moment as ADMIN would have to make changes to the Contest System to accommodate the idea. What I am pushing for now is to have a Compare Button so you can choose your top X and then go back and work that list down, but even that needs to be programmed in. Keep the ideas coming though.
