Thanks! The consensus seems to be Steve Perry’s at the top of the recommended list.

Yes, just going through Steve’s videos and books will bring forward a comfortable knowledge of the menus and camera optimization. I have a 780 and Z7 and learned a lot.

I owned the 200-500 for a short time before I sold it. I now use my 500 PF for those jobs IF I am not using my 400/2.8 TC. Best of luck.

Agreed. I go between the 70-200 with a converter and the 500PF.

I’d keep working with the Mac. It is the OS most used in graphics, design, video, and photo productions. The M1 Pro has the M1 processor (duh). A faster, lower power one designed by Apple, not Intel. It is outstanding with extremely fast memory transfer. The display is 14” or 16”. The 14” version is just under $3000 (1T SSD, 16GB). It will easily drive a separate monitor. Try a BEN-Q.

I purchased this lens with a D610 Nikkon. It has served me well. I now have a Z7 and a D780 with a number of zoom lenses that are better matched to my use, albeit heavier and less convenient. This lens is in great shape. Obviously, no scratches or other signs of misuse. All focus and zoom functions work as new. You will note that the raised, gold lettering on the lens is rubbed off due to skin oil or sunscreen. I am having an issue posting DNG images converted from RAW(NEF). I will send a link if you would like to view them or post when solved.

What you get is the lens, hood, owner's manual, lens cap, and soft bag. Note that the lens cap has a magnet attached. I can include a non-Nikon cap if you like. I do not have the box. I will ship to continental US free via insured USPS or UPS.

Also, the lens is not in warranty but, I will refund your purchase within 5 days of receipt of this lens does not meet the optical quality of the many reviews. You must ship it back to me and I will do a refund if the condition is identical to that I shipped.

You can purchase this model as new for $946. You can also find it on eBay for $325 through $600 but it will be a non-US serial number. Should you go this route and, sometime in the future, need service you will need to research options.

Apparently, there is a scarcity of graphics cards, too. One that are available have gone way up in price. I got this from watching Linus Tech Tips on YouTube.

They are used to mine Bitcoin.

I'm trying to figure out why you would say such a thing so that I might intelligently respond. All I can say is that I take a lot of rather close up images - not in the 1:1 range - and I used to resort to f/36.0 or f/42.0 routinely to get the depth of field I wanted, using a D810 and a 105mm 2.8 "micro Nikkor." Now, with a D850, I shoot at f/5.6 or f/8.0 and get all the depth of field I want. Is it your view that "photography as an art form" has no interest in detailed images where everything seems to be in clear focus?

IMHO, having the whole field sharp is an art form!

I could apply focus stacking sometimes.
Question, is it part of camera or is it a separate apparatus?
If in camera, which ones. Sony preferred.

Steve Perry does a excellent job on this topic for Nikon Z, 780, and 850 cameras. The info is applicable to other cameras on why do it and how to optimize.

Has anyone been to Pismo Beach area? I will fly into San Luis Obispo on Sunday and will have an afternoon to kill and I think the beach is fairly close. Wondering about finding places to park, any bird areas etc.
Thanks Beth

It is worth going. Also close by are the monarch butterfly groves. You would be at the end of the migration but worth a visit if you can get in.

I suspect that like most fellows I have a collection of old software and general data CD's and DVD's. Unlike magnetic data stored on a hard drive or solid state drive, the burning process of a CD is nothing but creating a pattern of pits and lands over the polycarbonate layer.

As far as aging goes, it is very durable and in and of itself there is nothing electronic or mechanical about it. Frailty is that they can be broken or scuffed which will skew the reading of the pits and lands of the coded data on it. Taking care by keeping them in their jewel case will help keep them free of scuffs and scratches.

Sometimes 'old school' isn't so bad today after all.

Except for the fact that ‘burned’ DVDs do have degradation of the pits. Pressed ones much less. Tape or the cloud is much safer. More local and accessible is raid NAS. You just have to bring the data forward with technology changes.

I purchased the D780 and love it. It takes outstanding photos and meets my needs totally. I like to feel a solid camera and wanted a full frame camera and like DSLRs. I understand people wanting to go mirrorless or the need for the latest but I am totally pleased with my choice.

I agree. I have the D780 and a Z7. I find both to be excellent. Each has their advantages and neither is perfect. Nonetheless, for a DSLR, the 780 is great.

I have a Nikon 18-200 3.5-5.6 VR lens at present and now want a little more reach so am looking at buying a Nikon 300mm lens. I see that there are two options listed in my price range, a 18-300 and a 28-300. Can anyone point out from personal use the similarities and/or differences of each as compared to the other? The price of one appears to be greater than the other but are close enough to each other for both to be in my price range of 400-600$. The lens will generally be used hand-held so VR is important. Any input will be appreciated.

I have a 28-300mm lens 3.5 to 5.6 f . It has worked very well and is still sold. However, I have moved to the Z so this FX lens is somewhat less used. I can put it out on the sale forum I the next day or two. I would ask $575.

There are ‘free’ converters pout there. However, they are browser based and you agree that they can use the images. The email solution is best.

Just a thought: Switch your full frame to DX mode and get the extra boost without losing /5.6 No need for the 1.4 extender.

Or just shoot FX and crop it. The DX buys nothing. I’ve used the converter with the 500 PF on a 780 and other inputs are valid. Using it, a FTZ adapter on a Z7 works very well and a higher iso can be used for low light.

Easily seen on an iPad after enlarging. Looks like chromatic aberration. You did not mention the lense used.
