Considering one of these for traveling photo processing. With the M1 chip what, if any, are the differences? Any help/opinion appreciated. Tks. DuBar

Thanks very much. I have a dell 5700 laptop which has been a dog from day 1, every win 10 update causes problems and no help from Dell. Think I’ll look at iMacs.

Thanks again

Maybe you have done this already, but take a look at the recommended hardware configurations for the software that you intend to use. Topaz, for example, specifies good-better-best levels for dedicated video memory. I was in the same boat six months ago, and never found a suitable laptop. I did not require a traveling machine, so I bought a loaded desktop. Please let us know what you find.

What desktop & specs did you buy and are you happy?

Thanks

One of my staff's grand daughter really "thinks" she wants to get into photography. Her idea is flowers, landscapes and similar. I grew up with pentax, then minolta and now Canon 90D but know little about the new Nicons, Canon Rebels, or even Pentax for that matter. What I am sure about is the best way to learn a camera is to shoot it and the best way to learn the technical aspects is interchangeable lenses.

For a "newbie", and remember she is only 14 years old and really has never had a camera, would you stick with interchangeable lenses ( I would think so) and what brand? Mother and grandmother want to stay "cheap" but not buy her a "toy"

There are a lot of people on here with a lot more knowledge and opinions than mine. What say you all?

A look at an Olympus epl7, 8 or 9 would fill the bill!

Kit lens is a 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 zoom. Since zoom (to fill frame) controls aperture I use s mode to control shutter (to stop motion blur) and auto iso. Now I’ll throw in exposure comp. to get ETTR. Does that sound reasonable?

Again, thanks.

That seems to work, thanks very much.

Moved up to an Olympus epl8 micro4/3rd. Generally using the kit zoom in A, shutter 125 and auto ISO. because of zoom increasing apature I sometimes wind up at 25600 ISO. still way better than sx160. Will try raising image comp and less zoom for ETTR.

I appreciate the education

Great ideas, thank you. Does in camera noise reduction apply to RAW or just JPG?
