A lot of unadulterated joy on everyone's faces, for sure -- kids AND adults. Nice to see in this day and age!

A few (of many) shots on what started out as a beautiful day but soon clouded over. I often hear that photographers prefer overcast skies but this seems like it'd be an exception -- those kites really stand out against a bright blue sky!

Comments/critiques welcome. (Including how to brighten up the cloudy shots.)

For those interested: Canon R6 Mk II with either 24-70 f/2.8 or 70-300 f/4.0-5.6. Settings varied of course but all were shutter priority and ISO Auto. I can pull together specifics if desired.

Thanks!

MB

These are beautiful! And now, you will think of leaves! Don't sell your images "short"! The best standards are the ones one sets for oneself. No comparing, just sharing. In the process, one gains new ideas, additional knowledge, new "eyes" and keeps on clicking the shutter. Like the vivid colors in your second image - it really pops.

Thanks, Pat! Appreciate it.

Really enjoyed these, especially the first shot of your "tall" subject. Striking.

In many parts of the country, it's time for falling leaves, raking leaves, mulching leaves and simply admiring them. Leaves needn't be of the Autumnal variety so participation is possible for all.

We had our first sprinkle of snow this week. On my walk, I found the first 2 leaves.

Just seeing this, apologies for being a day late! I haven't (for some inexplicable reason -- though I will start now) really focused on leaves before so these are from my "Trees" folder. I'm afraid not really up to others' standards in this challenge, but here they are. Thanks.

These are eye-popping, especially all the different light conditions.

Can you share details about the nighttime photo (time of night, settings)?

Thanks,

MB

That's spectacular. Really gives a sense of the scale of those peaks.

The fact that your pics look the same simply means you have settled into a comfort zone.
When you plan a shoot, try doing a google of pics others have posted.

Don’t try do do any drastic changes. Do small things one at a time.
Couple of examples to try. Others can add.
1. Spend a trip only shooting with the camera vertical.
2. Try going out with one focal length such as a 50 etc
3. Try using filters, like an ND
4. If you aren’t getting a shoot an hour before a sunrise or staying until an hour after sunset. Try it
5. If you use tripod try handheld. If handheld try tripod
Before you do each new thing read on it.
By doing one small thing at a time it stays fun and avoids becoming overwhelmed.
The list goes on and on
The fact that your pics look the same simply means... (show quote)

Thank you very much. As it happens, I've started one exercise -- taking shots all around the National Cathedral at different times of day. Also planning outings to Arboretum and local trails taking just B&W. As you say, simple stuff. (Early discovery -- hard to combine these with a walk with your wife....strictly solo activity!)

Thanks for that detailed and helpful reply. I agree -- gotten some great advice from list members, which is much appreciated. Takeaway for me is probably not unexpected by anyone here -- no substitute for practice especially with a purpose, take advantage of the expertise and willingness to help that's out there in the community.

Always happy to hear more suggestions, but many thanks to everyone so far!
