Thanks to each of you for your responses. I like the idea of the car rental but realizing how much traffic there is in the Grand Canyon area plus having to make my own motel reservations I may check out having a travel bureau make the reservation and then I’ll drive Anyone done the train trip .... worth it or not
When is the best time as my wife does not tolerate heat well.

First, congratulations to your wife.

Here is a link to the Grand Canyon Railway brochure: https://www.thetrain.com/content/uploads/2020/01/Grand-Canyon-Railway.pdf

It's a three hour ride up and a three hour ride back. From Williams to the South Rim is an hour drive. If you choose to drive get to the park early. My wife and I were there in 2015 at the end of May. At that time tourists could not drive the park roads, but the park runs shuttle buses (A/C) every ten to fifteen minutes. Get off, take your time, hop on the next one that comes along. Walk from one stop to the next if you can. The bus drivers will tell you how far it is to the next stop. We basically spent the day there (8+houours). We stayed in Williams. Our trip was a little different. We hauled a fifth wheel around the country. 44 days, 7,400 miles and about 3,500 photos. Enjoy your trip.

I just went to the website. The product is coming out of Hong Kong. It claims the 128GB product (memory stick) can hold 90,000 photos. The memory stick has software on it to copy/backup files. The regular price is $149.98 on special for $89.99. I just checked my main photo directory and I have 41,010 digital images at 226 GB. I just bought a 128GB Memorex memory stick for $25.00 at Target (the info on the back of the package says PNY and it's USB 3.1). My thought is you should be able to backup your photos and files using your operating system backup program. Or for about $70.00 you can get a Seagate or WD 2 TB backup drive. Hope this helps.

Ballard Locks in Seattle was fascinating. I had envisioned sitting on a grassy hillside overlooking the area, but instead you can stand right beside the locks, including in the middle where you have boat traffic going both directions. Big ones, little ones, tugged ones, tours - all expertly managed to fit as many at a time as possible, then the doors close and water rapidly rises or lowers, hour after hour after hour

My wife and I had the same experience at Sault Ste. Marie, MI. We took a boat tour of the locks one day and went back a couple days later "for about an hour" to observe the lakers going through the locks. We got there about 10:00 AM and left about 6:00 PM. It was fascinating and neither one of us wanted to leave. Some of the boats have a six inch clearance on either side.

Hey Harle. That is an excellent idea!
Darn, I just tried it on my I phone. Turned on the flashlight and then the camera & the light went out.

If any of you have any pull with the powers that be at Apple, suggest this one. Will sure beat the built in flash.

The camera app should have a flash option. I have a Samsung S4 had that option and so does my S9.

Very nice. I started looking and photographing up after seeing a display at an art show. It is an interesting perspective.

Great photo. I was stationed there for 6 months starting Dec. 1969. Unfortunately the only morning I was up early enough to see the sun rise, I pulled KP.

We were there in August 1996. Flew into Anchorage and did day trips. One trip we did was the Phillip's 26 Glacier Cruise 1-800-544-0529, https://www.phillipscruises.com/. They picked us up at our hotel in a Greyhound sized bus and drove us down to Whittier. Part of that trip included a portion with the bus on a flatbed rail car that went through a 2.5 mile tunnel. The Glacier cruise is on a high speed catamaran that travels about 110 miles of Prince William Sound.

We took the train from Anchorage to Denali and spent a night in the park hotel. We booked the Wild Life Tour which takes you about 65 miles into the park. We saw lots of wild life on that trip. We had enough time in the morning to hike down to Horseshoe Lake and back before our wild life tour left. Private vehicles were restricted to the first 15 miles of road in the park. To go beyond that, you take a park bus. The Wild Life Tour is worth the time and money.

Enjoy your trip and I hope to see some photos posted.

When you go into email or text message, the keyboard should show a series of icons above the number line. One of those icons looks like a gear. The gear is the link to the keyboard settings. Tap the gear, tap Smart Typing, Tap Keyboard swipe controls, tap No Swipe gestures. This will fix your problem. The swipe feature was implemented to make typing faster by swiping across the keyboard from one letter to another in the same word, and the word magically appears in the message. Random swipes, such as you are experiencing are a pain. Hope this helps you and the others who are having issues with the keyboard swipe. Have a great day.

Understanding the value of a good backup, IMO is more important than how knowing how your Camera, Computer or Programs manage your photo files - or any files for that matter . . . With good incremental backup procedures, one rarely loses files, until what one thought to be a good backup scheme, turns out not to be good as they thought. (For example failed backup media or media that is no longer readable by your current system.)

If only windows had file versioning . . . a feature of DEC VAX/VMS systems - made it very easy to get your original file back, before you screwed it up with some editing. I digress . . .

Learning the behavior of the photo editors - I think is the biggest hurdle (for me), but many computer users have no clue about how or where their files, photo's, music, data .... are stored/organized. I myself, don't want my photo editing program managing my files, but that's just me. For many, it may very well be the best way for them.

But knowing what's going on "behind the scenes" is indeed valuable knowledge - and will probably save those heartaches . . .

Just my 2¢ - Steve M.

DEC VAX/VMS systems. Boy did you bring back a flood of memories for me. Spent 39 years in IT, including two years in the Army.

Try the Camera Company in Madison Wisconsin. I have had excellent dealings with them.

I love your response. Had me laughing for about five minutes. I haven't read through all the responses yet, but I have a D5100, sometimes I'm in auto, sometimes Sports scene, and sometimes full manual. Depends on the subject. Here's one of a butterfly in my backyard.
