I have a Sony remote RMT-VP1. Works great with my RX10 IV. Have you checked the battery?

The Rockies in May? I'd suggest snow boots and a warm coat!

I would like to ask for advice on what camera to purchase next. Perhaps some background would help. Twenty years ago I sold my Nikon manual film SLR and began to use point-and-shoot digitals. My two most recent cameras were a Sony NEX-3, and, for the last 4-5 years, a Sony RX100 IV. The aim was minimal weight and bulk, with acceptable image quality; and I'm happy enough with the Sony's 24-70mm (35 mm equivalent) zoom range. I almost exclusively shoot jpegs, editing some of those. I take some issue with the color of the Sony's out-of-camera jpegs; have decided I want higher IQ and more dial controls; and am willing to accept somewhat more bulk and weight. Probably would only purchase a few lenses. Am considering the following cameras: Fujifilm XT-30 or possibly XT-3, Canon M6 II, Nikon Z50 (APS-C); or Canon RP, Nikon Z5, Sony A7 II (full frame). Would most likely start out with a modest zoom, and would like to initially stay closer to $1K than $2K if possible. Notice I'm looking for compactness within those categories; and wondering if I really need to go to full frame.

Any opinions would be most appreciated.

I'm new to the forum and completely new to photography. I did purchase a Sony RX10 Mark 4 and am learning to use it. I mostly take pictures of my grandson's track and cross country meets as well as family. I've been pleased with the pictures and camera but hope when I learn to use the camera properly, my pictures will improve. The pictures included are mostly on auto settings. Three have been cropped and the bird - my first bird picture ever - was lightened but needs to be lightened a little more. The first picture is a crop of #3.

Overall I am pleased with the camera. I just need to learn more about it.

Any constructive help is welcome.

Hi,
I'm new to posting but have been reading your blog for several months. I felt compelled to answer a post about the Sony RX10 IV as I recently purchased one. I'm still learning the basics. I do have a background in art.
The comment I would like to make is about a device I purchased that helped me hold the camera steady. It is the Novoflex PISTCK - C, purchased through B&H. The base fits against the chest and connects the camera around the neck to form a triangle and can be held with one hand. this would leave your other hand free to use a wireless shutter release. I mostly take pictures of my grandson at Cross Country meets and Track so he is always moving. Not easy but I have taken some decent photos of him this way.
