Good dvice Bill, and I completely agree on the Samsung T7. Much faster than a spinning disk, more reliable (essentially shock proof) and small/light.

T7 is what I use on my MacBook and iMac both.

The D7200 is DX and the Z6 is a full frame, so unless I’m mistaken you won’t be able to get the intended use from your DX lenses. I think the photos will be distorted.

They won’t be distorted. The Z6 will automatically shift to DX mode. It is a pretty significant reduction in resolution. I cannot remember anymore.

Attempting to go from Nikon D7200 to Nikon Z6 and totally confused about what I’ve been told. Person at Photo shop says i absolutely cannot use my current Nikon DX lens on the Z6. Others say i can use them with the Z mount attachment but i will lose resolution and it will be cropped differently. So, what’s the truth?

I did that a few years ago. I jumped from a D7200 and D700 to a Z6 w/24-70 f4 Z S lens. I only had 1 f mount DX lens. The camera adjusted to DX automatically. I had all other full frame lenses that worked great using the FTZ adapter.

I did not like the way the DX lens worked. I sold it and used the 24-70 f4. A 24-70 f2.8 is what I used mostly on my DSLRs.

I still have my Z6 but I added a z8 this year. I no longer have any F-Mount lenses now either. I traded or sold for Z glass. It has taken a few years, but I am really pleased.

My only recommendation would be to see if you could sell the DX lenses and replenish using KEH to buy used z lenses or full frame F-Mount. There are also 3rd party lenses like Tamron.

I wish you success. I hope this was some help.

I have gone mirrorless myself...but have found the weight of the lenses offsets any weight savings from the body. We all want the 'fastest' lenses....and they get...big and fat and wide to be that.

But the allure sure does sell equipment.

Yes, the IBIS, EVF, and the WYSIWYG are the things that made the difference. The weight reduction over my gripped D700 was a plus. I also love the glass. The f4 zooms and f1.8 primes really have impressed me.

Yes, we all get to that point...unfortunately.
But a few ounces isn't going to make that big of a difference.
I will go with a cellphone at that point.
Their photographic advances are the future anyway.

We will just have to agree to disagree.

Mirrorless cameras were initially designed for the Asian market...folks with small hands. Everyone was surprised to see them take off in the US.
If a few ounces is a big deal...use a cellphone.

I once was 10 feet tall and bulletproof. Civilians tended to cross the street when my friends and I walked through... but a few strokes and things change very quickly. You never know how life might change.

I am thankful for mirrorless, especially the Z6. I can still manage my D700 with a grip but I prefer my Z6.

Especially when you get to be 72 years old. I am going to order up a Z50 with both of the kit lenses after I have seen some of the spectacular images that this camera can capture....it doesn't mean that mine will be as good, but the weight reduction will make my images even sharper.....

I have 2 friends that purchased the Z50, and they felt it was as light as their Olympus Micro 4/3s. Both had chosen these to reduce weight and they were pleased.

Well, here's a re-welcome, Danno! Me too on the Z lenses...just picked-up the 70-200 today and, boy, it's the sh*t. I kinda wish I still had my D700, what a fine camera.

Thank you! Congrats on the 70-200. I am saving for that one now. A new car and a couple household things got in the way of that lens. But it is just time and money... we will get there.

Hello all. I joined some time ago but I really did not get involved here. I got distracted by other things, and it had been long enough that I wanted to reintroduce myself.

They have called me Danno since the original "Hawaii 50". I live in Kentucky.

I shoot Nikon and have a Z6 and D700. The majority of the time I use the Z6, but I cannot part with the D700. I mostly shoot Landscape and events at church, but occasionally Senior Photos and family photos.

I love the Z lenses. I have the 14-30 f4, 24-70 f4, 50 f1.8, and 85 f1.8. I have found them to be great lenses.

At a young 84 I find I am no longer able to hold my D750 steady enough for good images. Unless I use a tripod most images are soft. I have tried monopod with some success but I really like to shoot street photography so that does not work well. It has been suggested by some of my camera club friends that I may be able to hand hold a lighter camera. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The mirror less 4 3rds such as Olympus OM-DE-M10 Mark IV looks like it would be a lot lighter than the D750. Any experience with mirror less 4 3rds?

Since you do mostly street photography I would look at the Z50. It has the 5 axis IBIS and is much lighter than the 750. It could help you. I do not know what lenses you have but the FTZ adapter allows you to use your old lenses if they have focus motors. If you want to go with the native lenses any of the primes are amazing an the zoom lens like the 24-70 f4 is light and compact.

I have a Z6 When I decided to buy the Z6 I was on plan to purchase an 850 when a friend of mine let me check out his Z7. I was amazed at the EVF and IBIS and for the kind of photography I like the focus system seemed fine. After a bit of research I went with the Z6 because of the better low light performance.

I love the native glass but I do have F Mount glass Tamron and Nikon. both work great with the FTZ adapter. I also have a 60mm f2.8 D Nikon lens that is manual focus on the Z6, but focus peaking makes that very easy to use.

The Z6 I purchased came with the 24-70 f4 S lens. The lens included is not a traditional kit lens. The "S" designates the premium Z mount lenses.

Whatever you decide to do I wish you well. I am down to a Z6 and D700 with a good balance of Z and F glass.

Hi, I just stumbled across this site and have enjoyed reading some of the questions and responses.

I am relatively new to photography I had some health issues that forced me to leave work. I had always bee fascinated by photography but being a workaholic did not leave room for it. When I slowed down God gave me another opportunity. I mostly like landscapes, architecture and car and bike shows.
My cameras are Nikon: D700, D7200 and I just bought the Z 6.

I look forward to hanging out here and gai ing some knowledge.
