This large plant grows well in Ciener Botanical Garden in downtown Kernersville NC. With the sun behind it, the leaf looks like a contour map made by the veins and ripples in the skin. On the sunny side, the plant had white blooms erupting out of the leaf stalk. Several blooms sprouted in a neat row from the same stalk. Amazing plant and garden.

Mike, You’ve a great eye for capturing images with wonderful depth!

These are two more in an excellent series.

These places are meant to be shared, whether in an image or in person with friends. Much joy is in the journey. Thank you Dave for your kind comments.

I am not an expert on rocks but the rhododendrons seem to be right on. They should be close to the color shown or white. The color of their leaves is just right on. As for a tripod have you thought of a fly rod instead.

I hooked what felt like a nice one for about 10 seconds and then the knot gave. The Watagua is mostly stocked on the beats we frequent along NC105.

Both are beautiful and outstanding images. Since I was not there I cannot say if you used a ND filter for these images, many photographers do. When I am shooting something like this my favorite is a Polarizer filter which I use to eliminate or suppress the reflections, mainly on the rocks. Because Polarizers have a filter factor of 2 they indeed double as a ND filter allowing using a small lens aperture to slow the movement of the water if so is desirable.

Both images could benefit from color correction since both have taken a pretty strong green cast. If you prefer them like that it is your choice since they are your images. My tendency is to correct the colors or having the correction done by a professional lab if I decide to print them.
Let me say those are technical details only and both are excellent images.

Thank you for the tech suggestions. The large rock does have a lot of reflection highlights. I didn't have a ND on the lens but I brought one and a polarizer. I usually hike (with other non-photographers) and photograph, sometimes there just isn't time to get the setup perfect. I've tried leaving the polarizer on the lens on other trips but the light can change in and out of the canopy. I guess I have to decide to hike or take photos. But I'm getting pretty good a holding the camera still when sitting. I had a table tripod in the back pack but it started to rain heavily. When I got back the camera complained about Error #20, and the mirror would rapidly flap. Eventually things dried out and the camera is working again. I'm lucky.

Nice shots from my hood. Live about 15 minutes from there.

We did the Boone Fork Loop on the 4th. Profile to Grandfather is a favorite trail of mine in your neighborhood.

We paused on the way out to Hebron Falls. There is a beautiful jungle in North Carolina.

The Highlands have been on my "To Do" list for a very long time. Does the view change much in October, Mike?

I will have to make a trip in the fall myself. The wildernesses above Massey Gap have a variety of trees, Wilburn Ridge is mostly grasses and shrubs. The higher elevations above the AT have ever-green types.
The cooler temperatures would definitely help with the longer hikes. I think the route out to Mt Rogers and then back up the east side into Wilson Creek area are the most interesting. I hope you get a chance to go.

The third image is particularly impressive.

In download, the parts sharply in focus look great against the background, the whole mottled light thing throughout the image is a classic - well done you!

Thank you. Lens was in f/4-5.6 for most of the day.

Great timing for this post as I am going there tomorrow morning. Did you see the wild ponies? And I understand there are two waterfalls also. Thanks for posting.

Ponies all over Wilburn Ridge and the trail to the spur for Mt Rogers. Very abundant. We stayed on the AT as much as possible for a loop of 15.5mile. The exception was the spur and the Pine Mt trail between Scales and the junction to Mt Rogers. The Lewis Fork wilderness (on north side) had little water. The Wilson Creek wilderness (on east side) AT trail had several bridges and cascades. I'd take a life straw or purifying method before drinking it though. So many wild and owned horses and deer and bear. Hope you have a great time.

Appreciate the comments. The elevation is 5728' at the summit, it's in the clouds a lot. Ferns, mosses and spruce line the path and cover the summit. The drier large rocks make for a picnic area. The hike is about 4miles.

There were three on a narrow stretch of the path. She let us go by but the one behind her wouldn't budge. I stooped under some brush off the path to get by him. They wanted something from our lunch bags I imagine.

Many ponies out last weekend in Grayson Highland State Park VA.
Massey Gap and Wilburn Ridge were teaming with them as well as the spur to Mt Rogers.
