Canon discontinued the G16. Here are perhaps 2 helpful links:

We have that teleconverter. Our reviews are mixed, too. To the point of afising you to save your money.

Oh, I am sorry - aside from the cost - it's so disappointing.

I just a comparison on DP Review of the G3X, G9X mark 2, Sony RX100 lV, G7X Mark ll and the G16. Here's what jumped out. All had a macro focus range of 5 cm except for the G16. The macro focus range for the G16 is 1 cm.

Occasionally, but rarely until after Christmas, a G16 would turn up on Canon's refurb site. Unfortunately, no longer. I'm surprised the sales people didn't mention the Canon G5x, available as a refurb for $450. It has a 1" sensor and an EVF. Another option at the same refurb price point is the G7x. It's more the size of the old S95/S100/etc series but doesn't have an EVF.

Thank you for your reply - I appreciate your help. If I was to purchase a newer Canon I probably would go for the G3X because the G3X has a 25X optical zoom. The G5X and G7X optical zoom is 4.2.
I also considered buying the TC-DC58E 1.4X teleconverter for the G16 but the reviews were mixed - didn't sound like a very good alternative. For now I am just going to wait and see if Canon comes up with some new offerings. Over the years,I have been a loyal canon customer having bought the G1, G2, G3 G12 and G16.

Well not really I was responding to this post:"I rue the day when our G15 dies. Wonder what would be a good replacement with the same characteristics." According to that article it kind of sounds like Canon isn't interested in producing new point and shoots.
I looked at many of the newer compact cameras and even called Canon. Canon suggested the G3X - it's pretty pricey $849 with no view finder. If you want a EVF you have to add in something like another $299 to the price. I told Canon that I wished they would make a camera like the G16 with a few more megas and little bit more zoom. The sales rep laughed (LOL) and said she would pass it on. I also called B&H and they suggested G5X $699 with no viewfinder. They also recommended Sony RX 10 lV ($1600).

I think the Canon Powershot G16 is a fantastic camera. I have taken 1000's of beautiful photos with this camera. I post a lot closeup photos of flowers to the National Garden Association. I find this camera produces accurate colors. I have entered a few NGA photo contests and done very well competing against professional photographers. A book publishing company recently purchased a few of my photographs. Whenever I receive a compliment, I respond by saying, "don't thank me, thank Canon". Believe it not, I still haven't uncovered it's fullest potential. One more thing, this camera is apparently holding it's value. Amazon is selling a new one for $699 and used ones on ebay are in the price range from $300+ on up. That should tell you something.

Click on "create a new topic" and fill in the blanks. You might want to start with posting in the Photo Gallery....and once you have gotten your feet wet, ask for critique.

I found the Photo Gallery I'll try and do it tomorrow. Right now I am decorating a Christmas tree.

Where do I post the photos? Under "create a new topic" or "newest pictures"? Thanks in advance.

Learn the camera you have and post some photos asking for critique. Buying new and better equipment does not necessarily improve skills.

I agree - excellent point. Thanks.

Thank you for your warm welcome. The reason I decided to join this forum was to improve my skills. I am most interested in outdoor photography of flowers etc. I would like to bring some excitement to my photos. Believe it or not, the first year I owned the Canon Powershot G 16, I left the camera in the auto mode. Finally in an effort to obtain better pictures under various situations, I took the leap and moved on to the manual mode where I played with the iso and f stop dials. Actually, I don't know the full potential of this camera. I would like to learn how to take really good macros. I have read that various macro lenses are necessary to achieve really good macros shots. I don't have any lenses. So I was thinking perhaps I should get a new camera with various lenses. There certainly are a lot of cameras being offered including mirrorless ones. All suggestions are welcomed.
