Thank you for all the information and all others as well, I am 82 and housebound with COPD. I am an amateur that loves photography and not being able to go out much I thought scanning would be something I could enjoy with my camera. I built my own copy stand and have done some of my own negs some taken in the 60's. The equipment I use is the copy stand and canon camera's, still working on the light source. Not interested in making a business just enough to pay for my upgrades and a some to help pay the rent. I really enjoy the hog and all your entries.

I think it all depends on why you take pictures, I am 80 yrs. old, If I were younger and a professional I would have to compete so I would need to get photos ready for market as quickly as I could, everything moves fast these days so its go big or go home. My first camera was one of those fold out I bought at a pawn shop for $8.00, My favorite was a Pentax MX I still use today, my first digital is a Pentax MX1. My point is I don't have to hurry, I love the process. I also brew craft beer, cost maybe a third as much commercial, however if I count the
hours of labor maybe 3 times as much. There is no satisfaction greater than working with your hands.

When I was a lad growling up on a farm I hated it, all the manual labor, some at night and smells, I couldn't wait till I was older and move to the city where all the action was, now I miss that smell of the barn and new mown hay and I am old enough to remember what food is supposed to taste like. We lived a few miles out of town but the little village of Canby, Oregon in the 40's and 50's was like a Norman Rockwell painting, no drugs, no gangs, no traffic jams, the cars back then were made of steel And had personality, today they are made of plastic and look pretty much all the same. I use digital because that is the way it is, but I still have my Pentax MX, and K1000, in fact this weekend I think I will grab up the MX and go out and shoot some barns, cows, pigs, horses, tractors, I would like to say kids out playing softball or swimming in the creek but they will be inside tapping on their phones or other digital devices. Sorry to carry on but mankind has lost something that is precious, not a perfect way of life but the best so far.

I have watched this site for several years and never posted a picture, I hope I can figure out how to do it. I just got my first DSLR, This picture was taken with my Pentax MX1 the most underrated camera I know of. Anyway it was taken Newport Oregon behind the Rogue brewery, I had gone the tour and then to a tour of their distillery, half way between I bailed out(it was an 1/8 mile and I am 78) I stopped to rest and seen this picture, there no thought put into it except composition. the fog was so thick the bridge could not be seen. This a cropped version as I did not see that 1 lone sailor on the boat.
Post comments if you like I will go back with the dslr and a tripod and will employ your comments

I am a retired cabinet maker, on the day of my retirement the owner of the business asked me how I had been a cabinet maker for 45 yrs and had all my fingers, I told him that when I started I seen a worker cut a finger off and after that I didn't do what he did, he asked what was that I said -working

I think the picture would be better in B&W, however color is good to. It appears he is waiting for something or someone, it surly was not a job interview.

I just purchased a SanDisk 128 gig extreme pro. It does'nt work in my Canon Tl1, I get a message to format, after trying several times it just gives the same message however it will work in my Pentax point and shoot and, the card for the Pentax works fine in the Canon, anyone ever have that problem?
I did take the advice of some of you and bought the Canon Rebel tl1 from Paul Stimson, a very nice gentleman, he sent 3 batteries fully charged and he even reset the time zone to pacific time. (he lives in Virginia)

I seen a head line entitled "Why not to use micro sd cards in a digital camera" is that correct or is it OK. My current camera uses CF cards, however I am purchasing one that uses sd cards

I am looking for a used Canon camera, my stepdaugnter gave me Canon xt, my first DSLR, I am enjoying digital photograohy. however I woild like a newer on with a bigger screen and uses sd cards rather than compact flash(too expensive) I have done some research and a XSi would work for me, what do you think of that one. I am 78 and have little money so I need something cheap. thank you
