Thank you for your very clear and expert advice.
I feel you are both correct in stating that $10.00 per month for Lightroom and Photoshop is inexpensive for the two best photo editing programs in existence. And no risk and continual updates.
I am thinking about getting lightroom.
Version 5 and 6 are for sale on Ebay on a disc for about $120.00 one time purchase.
Subscription for lightroom only is $10.00 per month.
What are your thoughts about buying it on disc that adobe stopped selling in 2019.
Are the updates and lmprovements that good to pay the subscription price forever?
Thank you all for the wealth of information.
Thank you both. I am thinking of getting a diffuser that is like a shadow box and comes in various sizes on Amazon and other local camera store made by Neewer, and Altura, and Godex It attaches to the speedlite with elastic and/or velcro.
I am thinking 9 x 11 should be large enough for my purpose.
Any thoughts.
I am an amateur photographer and not very familiar with the best ways to use on-camera flash. I have a canon r5 and a canon 430xrt speed light.
I shoot events for my Elks Lodge. The lighting is uneven and the ceilings are 15 ft high.
I have been bouncing the flash off the ceiling and getting acceptable results.
My question is would using a 9 x 11 inch on-flash diffuser give me better results?
I am considering purchasing a GODOX C5R RGB LED VIDEO LIGHT to use to light a small area with marginal lighting to improve photos I take at Elks events of members in front of colored, themed backdrops.
I am thinking of using the constant light for fill light instead of a flash.
Your opinions please as to whether this light would be bright enough to make a difference.
I would be shooting with a Canon R5 and RF 24-105 lens.
Thank you all for your thoughts
Thank you all for your thoughts
I am the photographer for my Elks Lodge in Santa Barbara, CA. As an avid amateur, volunteer, I shoot photos at most of our events.
For themed events like Halloween, Luau, etc., I put up a 6' x 8' cloth backdrop for members and guests to pose in front of as part of my photo shoot. Many times groups of 5 or 6.
I am now using my recently purchased Canon R5 with the RF24-105 F4 lens with no flash per my and member's choice shooting handheld.
My photos are sharp, but some are a half to a full-stop underexposed, which I correct in post-processing.
My thought is to purchase a good quality 18" ring light to gently increase my light to have a more correct exposure and possibly some catchlights in their eyes.
I am asking for your advice and experience.
Your thoughts will be very much appreciated.
I find no photos posted.
Where did you post your photos?
I born an raised in Scranton, PA.
Nay Aug Park was where I spent a lot of time at the original swimming pool in the summer. Ice skating in the winter.
I was a lifeguard for three summers during undergrad school.
Please post some of your current photos of the Park.
I am an avid amateur photographer now in Santa Barbara, CA.
My new camera is the Canon R5 with several L lenses.

The lens I meant is the Canon 100-400 4.5-5.6 L lens.
I am almost 79 years old and have had the 80D for 4 years or more. If I buy a new camera it will most likely be my last one. The lens I use most now is a Tamron 18-400. Mediocre, but good for a non-canon lens. Do you think
a Canon, L lens will make a significant difference on the 80D?

Nothing about your 24MP advanced EOS model is due for replacement nor upgrade. If shooting sports, look at the focal length of your lens(es) and the questions of (a) indoor / outdoor and (b) distance. Do you need a wider aperture for indoors? Do you need a longer focal length for center-field action? Removing the 1.6x crop factor via full-frame will surely cause issues. Spend your money on what is impactful. Replacing an EOS 80D is not one of them.
I also have an 80 D. I shoot events for my Elks Lodge, and Landscapes, Seascapes, Sunsets, Sea Mamals, Birds, etc. I live in Santa Barbara, California, so there is an endless variety to shoot outdoors. Also indoors at Elks events, etc.
What is your opinion of giving in to my burning desire to buy an R5 and 100-400 2.8 Canon lens?
