I would second the day trip suggestions regarding Taos, Ghost Ranch or Bandelier. If you happen to go to Taos, consider making a loop by taking the high road up (quaint villages along the way such as Trucas) and the main highway back. In addition to the Taos Pueblo, there is the iconic Ranchos de Taos Church (made famous by Paul Strand). Along the way Church at Chimayo is another great photo op.
