Great grab and go lens. I've been using it over a year and even now on my d850. For planned shootings I bring the 2.8s and primes. Family events, FB, instagram etc.. it works great.
Now that I have used this lens for awhile, I am extremely impressed with the quality, focus and sharpness of this fine lens. Put it on and forget it. If you want a lens that does it all, this one comes pretty close. Great for FX camera with large megapixels. It seems to shine with a higher ISO like 400 and about a F8 for outdoors daylight. My indoor shots look great too. The elephants was very low light and wide open aperture & 400 ISO, 15th sec. centered focus in middle.
The Nikon 28-300 is a fantastic lens, and if you can't get sharp images I would say it is your technique.
Here are some 28-300 photos using D850
With the D850 and a high shutter speed and the right ap. the 28-300 kills it. Most of my work is online and not blowing up big prints. So convenient compared to the quality 5 years ago. Best walk around ever especially for the Central Coast are I live in, Redwoods to ocean in 1 mile. Lots of wildlife around my house too. I'm getting old and hate switching out lenses, if I have a particular plan I will break out the Niko 70-20 vrll or my Tam 15-30 vc, for indoor stuff I love my nikkor 1.4G 55mm. I want to sell some of these but I just can't do it at this time but I probably will soon, I don't make much money off photos. Its nice having them.
Really like the Tammy 15-30.
I’ve seen some other post on this lens. I must say it’s turning out to be a fantastic lens for most purposes. I’ve been switching it out with my Nikon 70-200 vrll and Tamron 15-30 vc, it’s easier to keep the 28-300 for most shots, even indoor low light stuff. I’ll keep my other 2 lenses for special shots ie: Milky Way and extreme wide shots as well as night photos with good reach. This lens is sharp when used with D850 no doubt about it.
