Thank you all for your relplys. As I stated to amfoto1 I'm obviously in the right place on hedgehog here. I really appreciate all the time you all took to answer my questions, explain things and send links that you thought would be helpful. It's all been great and I look forward to learning more through here and hopefully some day giving back on here to others. Thanks so much!!

Wow amfoto1, really really appreciate your reply. I'm obviously in the right place first off. I just again, so appreciate the time that you took out of your day to explain all you did for me. It means a lot. I'm going to take some time tomorrow and go through everything with the camera. One good thing is I'm already using BBF. Came across it early on after buying my camera and as you said, I never looked back, love it! I'll update on here after looking more at that link and my camera menu and trying some things out. Thanks again!

Hello everyone! Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my question, any insight is appreciated. I have recently discovered auto focus tracking in live view mode on my 80d. A small square comes up, you touch the screen on a subject you want to focus on and the square follows that subject. Now my question is, I saw somewhere that there is something similar (auto focus tracking) when using just the view finder. I have searched all over for how to, number one, get into this mode and number two, actually track a subject. Is this possible in view finder mode or did I get bad information?

Note: I am not asking about auto focus modes ie. One Shot, AI focus, AI servo. Google seems to think I'm asking about this, which is why I'm having such a hard time figuring this out.

Hey all, I signed up on this site awhile ago, but just wanted to formally introduce myself. My name is Hans and I'm from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Yes Amish country, no I'm not Amish. 😃 I've loved photography my whole life, but only really have pursued it as a serious hobby in the last two years. Hope everyone and their families are doing well and is safe in these trying times we're in this year.

Well this lens actually is closer to $1900 with Canon and most reputable dealers offering a $300 discount savings right now. So when you price a used or refurbished one at $1400 now you'd be looking at a $500 savings which is pretty significant. But with the difference being about $100 right now due to the discount, I'm with you. I'd just buy it new so I have the warranty.

I found this helpful when just starting out. It shows what shutter speed, aperture and ISO all effect in a photograph.

All beautiful shots! I think my favorite is the first one, it just makes me feel alive and free, as if I'm there.

It seems your issue is that the lens is not a "constant aperture." If the lens for example is F 3.5 - 5, the widest the aperture will be when you are completely zoomed in is 5. To get the same result you either have to up the ISO or lower your shutter speed. To help you could either use a tripod with a lower shutter speed, as long as your not photographing moving objects, or you can typically get away with quite a low shutter speed as long as you're not "shaky" hand held. Hope this helps, not sure if I completely understand your question.
