Nesting season in North Central Texas near Weatherford. Probably Black-Crested Titmouse. Enjoy.

Taken from the fishing pier overlooking the mooring harbor back in July 2020. Probably 6-7 photos for each using the Nikon D810 - 70-200 f2.8 VRII lens. 2 different crops. That sandbar or shoreline beyond the mooring field break-wall is Sandy Hook NRA. Reduced quality to 90% upon export from LR6 to resize. Thank you for looking.

Great composition and balance, Tom.

Great photos! I think you've captured what is commonly called a "Digger bee," Anthophora spp. (Apidae).
These species dig nests in bare soil. This type of bee belongs to a larger group of bees that are generalist foragers but prefer plants in both the mint and the daisy families. They vary in size, but you can differentiate females by the long hairs on their hind legs (scopae) for carrying pollen and males by their unique, opal-like eyes that range in color from blue to bluish-green. Digger bees are found in Texas and California, as well as other parts of the southwestern U.S. and in Mexico.

Interresting article. I see a blue eye and don't see a stinger; perhaps you did capture a Melipona stingless bee.

Thanks for commenting, BurghByrd. One can only hope, although it does nothing for me aside from imaging something unusual, which is reward enough, however.
