A friend (plays banjo) let me know his band was playing last Friday evening. 6pm edt. I had no idea what to expect so I went, brought my Nikon d750 and Nikon 24-70 2.8 nonVR, Nikon sb700 flash, Gary Fong Lightsphere. Had a lady friend with me so waited a while until the lighting got better and took a couple of her. Used fill flash on all. I included an image (last pic) sooc to give everyone an idea of the initial lighting. Editing done in Lightroom.
I managed to score a Canon 100 - 400mm zoom off Craig's list. I have a couple uses in mind where weight isn't an issue. But for just carrying it around hunting for birds or something... My arms got tired just testing it out in my backyard, and I'm not too thrilled about the prospect of the lens hanging from the body mount while carrying the camera with a camera body mounted neck strap.
I'm looking for alternate ideas to carry this thing. What are any of you folks using for heavy lenses?

Great serie...really nice B/W work! I love color photography...but I find the "portrait" of the young lady looks a tad "flat" because the ambiant light is not enough directional...a bit too much wraping the talent. As said, the B/W pictures are really great!

Interesting. I do a lot of portraiture as well......not sure how much street photography you do....but, setting up OCF etc isn't an option in order to create lighting effects/shadows etc to attempt to create a more 3d image. As respects the gal in the portrait, I found the image to have enough 3d, tons of contrast with her green eyes, white teeth and red hair. In any event, it becomes subjective but appreciate your feedback. I would assume you noticed the crop which was rule of thirds which brought attention to her eyes in lieu of powerful hair.
