An excellent response by Jimmy T.

I too am Red-Green color blind according to several ophthalmologists who have tested my vision.
My problems come with distinguishing light blue from light pink, and dark red from brown.

Have been shooting DSLRs since 2006 without any issues. I do not keep to black and white as I like color
images. Just a few years ago I invested in a small device (by Illuminati) that measures the degrees Kelvin of
an area. Particularly with indoor shots (like with family gatherings), I will measure the degrees Kelvin ahead of time and set that into my DSLR. So far, no complaints from family and friends. I do not shoot RAW images and then get into one of the fancy software packages. I leave that alone.

You don't know how I appreciate your comments to this other amateur photog. I'm in a similar situation. I currently shoot with a Canon 80D and a Canon 90D. I want to move into mirrorless but was stuck wondering if I should go with the R6 or the R6 Mk II. After reading your note, I am going to research the R8. Thanks so much for bringing all the info to the forefront on this issue.

P.S.: Way back when I shot photos with the Canon T1i and later, the T5i, I got great photos with only 15 and 18 megapixels respectively on those older cameras. I knew going with the R6 would be a step backwards in sensor megapixels, but I now realize that I likely should move upward (or stay about equal) with the megapixels particularly if I get some photos enlarged. I positively want the pictures to be good and not fuzzy.

Again, thank you!

This sounds like a difficult way to do it, i.e., transfer photos from an iPhone to a computer running on Win 11, but here goes....
I purchased from Amazon for $19.95 a Blanbok flash drive device. One end has a lightning plug and the other end has a standard USB plug. I read the instructions (more on that in a minute) and plugged the lightning end into my iPhone. Within about 5 minutes or so it had copied some 2,000 photos from my iPhone, i.e., it did not download the originals. They were left on the iPhone. Then it gave me the choice of rearranging them by name, date, etc. I left them like they were on the phone. Plugged the little device into a USB portal on my HP computer and within minutes it had copied the 2,000 photos into a folder on my computer. I have the "fun job" now of sorting by topic and moving these photos to other folders.

Now the bad news........ The translation from Chinese to English in their instruction booklet is not just bad -- It is AWFUL. Whoever wrote the instructions left off steps. So, I got a cup of coffee and began to tinker with the thing. Finally, I figured out what to do and hand wrote my own instructions for next time. Again, that was the only bad part in the deal.

I'm just an amateur photog. Way back I used to work as a flunky for a professional photog in the town where I grew up. I noticed he did mainly in-studio portraits, aerial photos, industrial photos, convention photos, etc., but did exceedingly few weddings. Now I know why!

It's sorta like Jackie Gleason said to his bumbling son in the movie,"Smokey and the Bandit,"...… I'm paraphrasing his statement, "Ain't no way I'd ever do wedding photos if I were a pro photog."

Enjoyed reading all sides of the issue though.

You might borrow something from the home construction business...……
I know of a situation where the wife was similar to bridezilla you described and nobody wanted the contract to build a good-sized, custom home for them. This was in a relatively small community and so, word got around about how demanding the wife was on things.

First contractor she went to discovered that he was "busy" during that time frame. The next contractor (already knowing the situation) discovered he too was "busy," but might do it at a HUGE markup in price since he'd have to subcontract the house with someone else if his firm was to do it at all. The next contractor had some sort of "can't do it either" story. Finally got to one unlucky soul (who had been forewarned) who decided he wanted their business. He entered into a contract with the couple for their new home.

Long story made short, he built their dream home, but the wife had so many change orders that it bankrupted his firm. So, be "busy" during the time frame of her wedding.

BTW, I'm not a pro photog, but I worked for one of the best pro photogs in my community and was trained by him in photography. I owe my love of photography to that fellow.

My situation is similar to some of the others.

I shoot about one high school class reunion a year and it's always inside a dimly lit (incandescent lighting) dining room. I crank up the ISO to where I can get acceptable results. Everything is a trade off. Sure, you will get more "grain" at high ISO settings, but you will also get the photo.

Same thing when shooting photos in a church setting. You don't want to use flash and in churches the available light is usually subdued.

If what you are doing produces acceptable results for you; then go for it.

Nice photos of one of the most beautiful parts of the United States!

We were in Canyonlands NP in about 2013 or so and we didn't know about Dead Horse Point State Park.
Missed it completely. We fixed that in Sep 2016. My avatar is a photo I took at DHPSP in Sep 2016.

The photo opps in Utah are unbelievable, unless one has been there and seen it for himself. There is some
spectacular scenery alongside of I-70 between Salina and Green River, Utah also.

Good thoughts, Joe!

These 32 GB Lexar cards are both from B&H. However, maybe I should try buying another brand as you have suggested, from another source.

I too suspicion that it's the card that's getting pushed to its "write limits" and just freezing things up.

Thanks!

I'm new and not sure how to post a new topic within the Canon T5i area..... So, I'm putting this in under the "video stops working" area.

There are times when using one of my two T5is for still photos (no flash) that for some unknown reason the camera simply locks up and will not shoot despite pressing the shutter button. I can turn the power switch off, wait about 30 seconds or so, turn it on, and everything is normal then.
Anyone got any idea why this is happening? Again, this is with still photos and not video.

I own two T5is and they both do it now and then. I am using a 32 GB Lexar 633X Professional SD card in both cameras. Way back I downloaded the newest firmware into both cameras. Has anyone else encountered this problem with a T5i? Never had it happen when I was shooting with a Canon T1i.

Welcome John!

I'm a newbie too. This website is super!

I served in the ANG, the USAF, the AFROTC, and the Inactive USAF Reserve.
This was way back, after Korea and before Viet Nam.

With the Vello I purchased you can still use the built in flash or the hot shoe.

Here’s what I did with my Vello receiver unit.... I put a tiny piece of velcro on it and a matching piece of velcro on my tripod. I just slap the little receiver onto the tripod below the DSLR and plug its little wire thing into the DSLR’s remote control outlet. Works great for me.

I then keep the tiny transmitter in my pocket.

If you have grandkids - say in the range of ten to about fifteen years - they like to be THE photog sometimes on group shots and think it’s cool that Paw Paw let them trigger the remote.

Dds82...

I had some similar, but not as bad, issues with an IR remote and my DSLRs. Threw it away and bought a radio style Vello remote as you have just done. Completely happy with the Vello and you will be too.

You can now group everyone together, liesurely get into the goup, and with the tiny trigger held in you hand, take the photo you want with no sweat (and no delay). Great to use out of doors too.

FYI.... My avatar is a photo I shot at Dead Horse Point State Park near Moab, Utah in Sep 2016. Dead Horse Point State Park is adjacent to Canyonlands National Park near Moab. Both are a photographer's playground. Then, just a few miles away is Arches National Park.

Thanks, guys! As mentioned, I discovered this forum/website through my local newspaper's website. I've just scratched the surface, but it appears that there is a tremendous amount of photo knowledge on here.

Have tinkered with photography since earning the Boy Scout Photography merit badge eons ago. Went from film to digital circa 2006.
Shoot mainly with a Canon T5i. Use standard Canon glass - mostly. Have a couple of higher end Canon lenses.

Two perplexing questions I have regarding my Canon T5i camera....
(1) Sometimes when shooting photos (without flash) my T5i will lock up on me and stop shooting. Usually, when that happens I turn off the power switch and wait about one minute. Turn the power back on and all is normal. I'm using the latest Canon firmware update. Anyone else have that problem? Is it common to Canon DSLRs?
(2) I am experimenting and trying to mimic the rich color results I get with my iPhone with my T5i. Any suggestions on settings of sharpness, contrast, saturation, and color tone?

Just discovered Ugly Hedge Hog through my local newspaper. Interesting photo topics!
