I don't have any particular suggestions, just a comment to people reading this thread.

DAM means Digital Asset Management. It is not only for images. The Adobe DAM is probably the most familiar example to people on this forum, but it is oriented toward management of images. Digital assets can include any digital file. Images, word processing, programs, passwords, program configuration files, emails, data, etc.

A DAM program can manage the storage, documentation, access, and status of digital assets. In general it will be a database with some sort of searchable index. It will allow searches over one or many parameters.

I have a lot of stuff on my computer, but the largest pile is images, so I need a DAM to manage that. I have other digital assets but the volume is small enough that I can keep it in my memory (although it's aging). For that I use Lightroom. However, Lightroom only handles images, not other digital files, so the OP is looking for something else. He specifically mentioned PDFs and Word files, although he did say he wants to organize his photo stuff.

I was thinking I had asked a bad question. Thanks for the backup...

Yep, and I had to look it up because most of the general use (not just image related) software is designed around commercial use. Companies that generate a large amount of documents, and need the ability to centralize them for sharing/editing and security benefit most.

I did find a good link to some open source DAM software, but I have to mention the disclaimer that this software does not look like it was designed for ease of use on non-commercial systems, so your mileage may vary on how good the software will work.

Hi very one.
I have been an active reader for two years and have learned much. Thanks

I am now looking for a DAM program that I can use for pictures, PDF and word files.
This will allow me to organize all of my photo stuff so I can find things.
I have looked at ThumbsPlus but I know there are other programs that will do
the job in an independent manner so thanks for the help.

I am 70 years old have a Nikon D7200 and a Lumix DCM-FZ300 I love both for what they can do.
I do macro, wild life, and family. I started photography in 1968 and have work film until three years go.
Thank again for any enlightenment you can share.
