I just don’t know. Back in the day when a new model supercar surfaced it would not take (at least for me) long to have it to memory of how it looked. Ie: a Hennessy, vs Saleen, vs Ferrari, vs . . . They each had its own character that stood them out. Now? First look is another one? They all look too much alike. I’ve been around “supercars” for almost as long as I can remember. To me now there’s not enough character between them. The price tag? …. I access rare and exotic insurance claims for a living, check the price again in a couple years. (Just my two cents, oh and don’t tell my cattle that my truck has leather seats)

It seems there’s a lot of votes for #2, but I like #3, with 2 as runner up.

Well for me I would never be in any of those type of situations. If I was to ever go to someplace that remote…. Nope it’s not ever it’s never. I carry daily to work, walking around, and always when I have an event in any city. But….. that’s me

Thank you. Those are all our “fur masters”. We seem to always cater to them. And the kitten in red is Stitch, who is now 12yrs, 23lbs, solid, has left a pheasant on the deck, and we have seen him go after young turkeys. He’s the in the single photo that followed.

Well for me I always carry, and sometimes times when I go the range I practice with an old Cannon rebel, where I will practice dropping the camera, & drawing the weapon. It is challenging…. However, one thing I will always be cognizant of is
1. If I have to draw it will be the last resort.
2. All my gear is itemized and insured at full value, and replaceable.
Since my carry is on my person, and I’m finally able to respond and fire under 12 seconds. What I “carry” in my bag is gun oil and snacks.

I tend it agree with you for the most part. However, there are times that I just do not have my a6400 aps -c Sony, or my a7riii FF, or even my a9. In those cases I have to rely on my Apple 14promax. Which is a 42mp raw, and by mounting it to my mini tripod-gimbal controller which has controls to, trigger, zoom, aperture & exposure, video, and a bit more. It is compact and lightweight enough that try to carry with me most of times.
My phone as well doubles as an exposure/light meter during a shoot, and when I do use my real cameras. I’m able to bounce a shot to my phone or iPad to give a client a quick preview of the shots.
Now IMOP will my iPhones replace my real cameras? NO, but I am and do embrace the forward technology they offer to us. Last year I tried the Leica phone which is very nice… however amazing I couldn’t find myself shelling out $2400+ for a phone. (However I did just preordered the new iPhone 15 promax w/1tb storage) That one just might be used more in my product photography.
So my point is we all have differing opinions, and also needs, and like I said for ME… a ‘’phone’ will not be able to replace my REAL cameras, but the right ones can enhance our photography experiences.

[quote=elliott937]Has anyone found a quality book for Affinity Photo? If so, can you share the name please?
Thanks,
I bought mine direct from affinity. Now it is for their first version, but I have no intention to upgrade.

I have looked there too, and had same questions. Instead I had purchased from BOTH …. B&H… and ADORAMA… both inspect any used equipment plus they back up what they sell. I’ve had great experience with both stores

I do food photography. I use two of my cameras. Both Sony mirrorless an APS-C a6400, and a a7rIII. The aps-c is fine. The lenses I use are a 28-70mm, 50mm prime, and 90mm prime. However, depending on the plan of thought I have used other lenses.
Now BOTH Cannon and Nikon have great cameras too, but I got into the “mirrorless” Sony systems before the other two and now have a lot invested.
NOW.. for your son. He could go on YouTube look up “bite shot”. The woman is also a professional food photographer and has many reels with great information to learn from.
But if he’s struggling then I suggest to find a local photographer who specializes in this area
Gear ? If his phone is an iPhone 14 Pro Max
He can get great captures. And if it is this iPhone then to use the “portrait mode” “contour setting” and he will be amazed. If that’s not his camera…Sorry.
Camera body? Any of the three Sony, Nikon, Cannon. Pick one and then buy a ‘Prime’ lens 20, 30, 50 mm just one to start. And then learn camera, and start shooting.
There used to be a really great camera store in Seattle nearby the Mayflower. They ( if still there) could give you a wealth of information as well
G’Luck
