I am in western Pennsylvania, I will travel up to two hours and tutor you through it. How is that?

I'm in Washington State, but thanks so much for the offer.

I didn't realize that Nikon handled setting ISO so differently on different models. My two bodies have a button dedicated solely to setting ISO. The manual you should have received with the camera says to push the "i" button (is that what you are referring to as the "function button" and a menu will appear with all the setting that can be adjusted. The "multi selector" is then used to choose the setting you wish to change, and finally the "OK" button will show you what options you have to choose from.
Once you choose the desired option (in this case the ISO from the menu offered) it should not change once you set it - - - unless you have somehow landed on "auto ISO" which allows the camera to decide what the setting should be. I virtually never use Auto ISO unless the light is constantly changing and I can't be bothered with changing the other settings

I hope this helps.

Thank you, I'll try that first thing in the morning. And yes, I've heard that this is something that has recently been changed on some entry level Nikons. I'm starting to think I will be upgrading sooner than I had first anticipated. Once I get the functions and what they do all figured out, I'm sure I'll want something that has dedicated buttons or knobs for these things, instead of having to pull up a menu each time I want to change something.

Set your camera to aperture priority and trust your cameras light meter. Of course you could use auto mode and hope for the best. I would shoot at 35mm since yours is a cropped sensor camera. Sounds like the sun will be an issue so use the lens hood. If the pic is a little underexposed or overexposed you can fix it in post. Take a full length shot of the subjects with the trucks in the background. Then move in for a closer shot maybe from the waist up again making sure the trucks show up in the background. Now, take a third shot with just the two people handing the keys off. Make sure your composition is good. No cut off heads, hands, etc. What ever you do make SURE you are steady and in focus on the CEOs face! Flash if faces in the shade. Never shoot with the sun in your subjects face as all you will see are squinting eyes, NG! Let your boss know before hand you would like to take three shots so he can choose between the three and you will be a hit! Take a deep breath and go for it! It would be great if you would post the pics and comment on them. Good shooting to you!

When I am in aperture priority, and I change the ISO down to 100 (this is done by holding th Fn button then rotating the dial on my D3400), as soon as I let off the Fn key the ISO jumps way back up to 12500. Is there another button I need to push to "lock" this setting where I want it.

I apologize if I am a bit too needy here, I have ordered "D3400 for Dummies " for questions like this, i just have not received it yet.

Thank you.

You will probably want the CEO and at least one truck in the picture. Being right out in the sun has advantages and disadvantages. You would have plenty of light, but the light might be harsh. Especially if the light is coming at an angle. If it is bright and the truck and people could be in the shade of the warehouse (you know with the warehouse sign in there too), you might have enough ambient light to take a nice shot. If you are not in the shade, keep the sun behind you if possible.

After they hand off the keys, ask them to get a little closer, no closer than that, NO! A LITTLE CLOSER and then say "and now you may kiss the bride" Then, hopefully, get a shot of them laughing ...or chasing you either works.

I'd like to thank everyone for the advice! I know this is a very novice question, but I'm very grateful for the information.

speters, I think you are the closest (geographically) member I've seen on here. Our trucks actually go down through Grangeville!

I am the Warehouse Manager at a local produce warehouse and we are buy a new fleet of semi trucks. My boss knows that I just bought a new camera (Nikon D3400), and he asked if I would take pictures of the CEO receiving the keys to them. He knows I am just starting out, and is not expect professional results. However, I would really like the photos to turn out great.

It is normally very sunny and bright outside at the time I will be taking these pictures. I only have the 2 kit lenses ( 18mm-55mmVR, and the 70mm-300mm). I am thinking of using the VR lens on shutter priority.

Does anyone have any other suggestions that may help me ?

I'm interested in a macro lens for my D3400. Do you have a price for yours?

R.G.,

Thank you for bringing up post processing. These pictures have not been edited at all, I do not have any software to do such, yet. What program would you recommend using to someone beginning photography. I am using a Nikon D3400, not sure if that matters. Thank you.

I would like to know what lenses you are selling with prices. I am very interested, as I have recently bought my first dslr, a Nikon D3400. If you want to sell these, please tell me prices. Thank you.

First something quick and dirty: In your post process software, brighten the top photo up a couple stops, then add some vignette to darken the corners.

Now, in your camera, add some diffuse flash, and under expose the ambient image (if your camera calls for f/8@1/200, go into manual and set your camera to f/16 @1/200). This will darken the background and brighten the main flower

For the smoke with the sparkler, set up a box fan at your feet blowing towards your daughter to blow the smoke behind her.

So.....

This is the first photo I have posted on UHH, or anywhere for that matter. Although I'm a bit hesitant to post anything, I do believe advice from anyone who knows more than I do about photography will definitely help me along to the point that I am excited to share with you all. If anyone could let me know what I can do in an instance like this lily picture. I would've liked it to have a lot more contrast, making the flower "pop" a bit more. And in the second photo, how do i get this picture to not be so drowned out by yhe smoke? Thank you in advance for your constructive crititcism.

Hello,

I am brand new to the world of photography. I bought a Nikon D3400 kit, a purchase that I pondered on for quite some time. The photos that interest me the most are landscape/cityscape and macro shots. I am very much still learning to "walk" when it comes to operating my camera. The first thing I do is check for my UHH email every morning to look through all the new phots/topics. I'd just like to thank everyone who posts their work, I'm learning a lot just by reading here on the forum. I will post some photos as soon as I get something that I feel is worth showing to everyone. Thank you.
