Why is the US going to pay to fix it. The ships owner should be responsible

In remarks delivered from the White House, President Biden...vowed that the federal government would pay for the cost of rebuilding the bridge. Meaning we taxpayers.

Maybe they are also overloaded. Shippers always want to move the most possible.

Railroads did the same, trains got to be so long many areas passed laws limiting how long they could block road crossings. They had gotten so long and heavy they had to start slowing many miles out from the rail yards, and the distance to make an "emergency stop" came to be measured in miles
It didn't matter if an engineer saw a stalled car on the tracks if from the time he locked up the brakes to the time he stopped his locomotive was a mile or 2 (maybe more) past the crossing.

Autos and people hit by trains on Florida crossings is a frequent occuence in S Florida. If you ain't a train, stay off the track, you don't belong there. The train will always win.

Uncle Joe said he will, but he meant WE will pay for it.

Many bridges have little "islands" protecting the bridge supports. In one case, those islands were added to the new bridge after a ship's collision destroyed the former bridge.

They were added in Tampa when a similar bridge destruction occured. A Greyhound Bus with people in it was also lost.

It would not have happened if the ship was being towed by a tug. Harbors should not have done away them. Also the bridge designers did not do enough what-if analysis. It looked very flimsy and it was. The failure of one pylon/pillar should not have caused the bridge to collapse. Another Tay Bridge but caused by a ship this time.

I guess nobody was on the bridge.

There were workers and a few vehicles.

Yeah, I've never understood why they need to advertise drugs to the general public like they do, especially when they can't be obtained without a doctor's script. Seems like they could save a lot of money and possibly make these new drugs more affordable without all the ads. As an example, they put me on Farxiga last year and my co-pay was $300.00, but to make it even worse, they charged my insurance something like $2500.00 for each refill and that put my into the gap coverage level in just a few months and I had to pay more for every script after that, most of which I was getting with no co-pay whatsoever. Man, what a racket!

Yes, use it judiciously or avoid it entirely.

I use Thunderbird email program. It has a "junk" selection and can be trained too. It does not unsubscribe you it just moves flagged email to a Junk folder and deletes them after about 30 days. If an email arrives in the inbox and Thunderbird believes it is junk, it is flagged but stays in the inbox until you click on 'Junk' or 'Not Junk' then it deals with it based upon your selection. TBird uses IMAP, so if it Junks an email on one machine, it automatically junks it on all installations you have on other machines. The same for moving or deleting mail etc, it does it for all installs. Easy Peasy.

Plus all the stupid mindless games for so called smartphones, especially the gambling ones. Some streaming channels are flooded with them every few minutes over and over. My mute button on the TV remote is almost worn out.

Boy all this crap about the photographer making the difference etc is clearly wrong. All you need is one of those fancy Sony cameras and set her on 30 fps and you'll get killer shots! Nice Pic!

What goes in the lens comes out of the camera? That was my philosophy for 35mm, and still is. A great shot! Well done.

The common warning from computer people on YouTube is, "Never sign into your Microsoft account." I have no idea what my password is, so I don't have to worry about that.

Well, if I get Win11, I'll live with it.

If the Windows 11 engine is OK for you, the GUI is easy to fix. Amongst other things you can change the menu to look and behave like Windows 7 etc, either one or two columns and you can switch back and forth to and from Win 10/11 menu with one mouse click. I disliked Windows 8, 10 and 11 interfaces and have fixed all of mine. Here are a few of the choices.
The picture shows how you select and change the win 10 or 11 menu when you run the menu setup program.
