Thank you all. Yes, it is the Vivid setting. Seems when I was setting up the cameras I reading some online advice for settings and Vivid was recommended.
Never gave it another thought.
Thanks. It is a D7000. Not sure why I put in a the M.
I have a Nikon M7000 and D5100 and both seem to produce unnatural green colors. They are too vivid.
My wife's D40's shots are more natural. Adjusting the polarizing filter does nothing.
The M7000 has a Nikon lens and the D5100 a Sigma
Is there a setting I'm missing?
I live near New Beford and agree with the other comments. It is full of fishing boats and many opportunities for great shots.
The old whaling district has cobblestone streets and old buildings.
You can travel to nearby Dartmouth and Westport for scenic rivers, farms and seashore opportunities. Mattapoiset and Marion also have scenic shore areas.
An hour away is Newport, RI with its rocky coast and mansions. Go east about 30 miles and you are at the Cape Cod Canal. If you can get on the Cape, Sandwich is scenic.
If she can get up to Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon outside of Page makes for fantastic photography, on a sunny day. They are slot canyons with beams of light shining down. You have to book with a Navajo guide.
Some day I can going to make the loop starting in the Bryce and Arches area, and hitting the north rim, Antelope Canyon, then over to Monument Valley, down to Canyon DeChelly, Petrified Forest, Flagstaff and Sedona.
If she can stay overnight in the Canyon Village she can get the sunrise and sunset shots. For sunset, go west from the village on a shuttle to Maricopa, Powell or Hopi point. For sunrise, I like to head east to one of the overlooks. Hopefully there will be some big scattered clouds and at that time of year perhaps a dusting of snow to enhance things. I was there in April right after an overnight snowfall and got some great shots.
I do not know if the condors are there at that time of the year, but they too provide for some interesting photography.
I have visited Sedona for over 20 years and hiked is extensively. You can drive almost anywhere a jeep tour goes. That's ALMOST anywhere. Make sure you go to Red Rock Crossing at sunset for a shot of Oak Creek and Castle Rock. I is a must. The color is amazing. Another spot for sunset is Schnebly Hill Rd. Only have to drive till the pavement ends and there is a parking area on the left, but if you have a high clearance vehicles, you can go to the top of the rim. Avoid the airport overlook at sunset. Very crowded.
Get out into the back country by heading west on Dry Creek Rd. Just keep turning left until you are on some good gravel roads where you can go miles in open country.
Also, take a hike up the West Fork Trail in Oak Creek Canyon for some amazing scenery and water shots. Plenty of easy hikes in the area, but everything from easy to strenuous.
