I know this is too late to help the OP, but before I installed the latest 1.40 update on my Z Fc bodies, just to be safe, I did the "Save/Load Menu Settings" option, which is found in the SETUP MENU" This should give you a backup of all? most? of your customized settings. You would need to do this on an SD card that was NOT going to be used for the new Firmware update.
In my case, the latest Firmware update...1.40, which will support the new 12-28mm Power Zoom feature...went on with NO issues and all of my previous settings remained as I had hoped. Still...better safe that sorry....!!

Thats a good idea I had never thought of. I finally did get my Viltrox lens updated and they work fine with 1.40 now. Thanks.

Reverting to older firmware -

Yes, No, Maybe.

It seems that once a new update is announced, the old ones become unavailable. If that's true, the we should keep all the former firmware updates.

Ok, for an update. The old firmware was still available on the Nikon website. I was able to download it and reinstall it in the camera. (the first time I tried it it didn't work). It did reset all my settings in the camera so I had to reset everything in the camera but my Viltrox lenses now work so I am not updating again until that issue is resolved. Thanks everyone for your replies and help. Hope this helps anyone from who was thinking of installing the update and who has some Viltrox lenses.

I tried that but apparently you cant go back to an older firmware once the latest update has been installed but thanks for the suggestion. I think Viltrox will eventually come out with an update. I wanted to warn anyone with Viltrox lenses that they might want to wait before installing the update.

I just updated the firmware of my Nikon Zfc to the latest 1.40 and now my Viltrox lenses will not work or are even recognized by the camera. They work fine on my Z50 and Z6II and worked on the Zfc before the firmware update. So beware anyone with Viltrox lenses before installing the new update.

I have an X-T2 and just added the X-T3 because of the great sale price and have sold my Nikon equipment a D7500 and Z50 with an assortment of lens. The X-T3 with the 16-80 lens with the hand grip weighs about the same as the D7500 with the 16-80 so there isn't a weight difference but I enjoy using the Fuji more than the Nikon and I like the prime lens Fuji has available something Nikon didn't have available for its DX line. It took me a while to get used to the EVF and at first preferred the optical viewfinder on Nikon but now prefer the EVF of the Fuji. They both take great pictures Nikon just has a different look to them. I love the X-T3 and find myself wanting to and enjoying taking pictures more with it than I did my Nikon. The Nikon was more a tool I used but the Fuji I enjoy and use for fun.

Everyone has a system that works for them. Myself I like to download the files from the card to the desktop of my computer. I separate the raw and jpeg into separate folders if I have shot both. I then view the pictures using Mac's viewer or else raw viewer and cull out the bad ones then decide which ones I want to process. Mostly I get the results I want with the jpeg file but have a raw file if I need it. I don't use lightroom and I know those who do would use a different system. I use Luminar 4 a lot for post processing but don't use their catalog feature for organizing pictures.

My Luminar 4.3 update worked fine without any problems so far. Works as a stand alone or as a plug-in with Photos or Elements 2018. My first attempt at using the sky replacement feature and adding birds. Found it easy to work with.

I have a couple of off brand L brackets and for as often as I use them, which isn't often, they are all I need. Look at Neewer, 3 Legged Thing, Sunway and my favorite Desmond DAL-1 for $20 on Amazon.

Both Tamron & Sigma make a 100-400. I have the Sigma and really like it. Very sharp. It doesn't have a collar or one available but I can live with it. The Tamron has good reviews and a collar is available at extra cost.

I just recently started shooting more video and have found it a lot of fun. The rules of good photography apply to shooting video also. I use iMovie for editing, it does everything I need for now. Looking at gimbals to improve quality of videos when a tripod and video head are inconvenient to use although the Nikon Z50 with its stabilization does a decent job when hand holding. As Burkphoto said good audio is necessary for an entertaining video and that another whole different field to learn. I am 77 and still love learning new things.
