I have both, and I am hard-pressed to decide which is sharper as a number of actions determine sharpness. However, the f1.2 (apart from the expense), is very heavy whereas f1.8 is very compact and a pleasure to use. Canon are not fools so one must accept that the f1.2 is technically superior, but if the expense is a consideration - go with the f1.8.

Fortunately it's a Sony, so connect the carrying strap and go from there.

An excellent replay and absolutely accurate. The officer has a job to do while you are having fun.

As has clearly been established, you have a perfect right to photograph most things from the public highway. However, the officer was quite right to investigate your activity. You could have been in need of assistance. Your vehicle could have been causing an obstruction. You could have been observing the building with the intent to commit a crime. Give the officer a break - and be grateful that he/she is doing their job.

The lens is a tool, just use it. You will know soon enough if it is damaged. Do the experts test. Is the glass (both ends) completely damage free? Does it rattle when you vigorously shake it? If it's OK on both counts then the probability is that it's good.
