Just a note to the "inhospitable" and grumpy folks today. Asking question on this is this forum is RESEARCH. Oftentimes when I "Google" or otherwise search questions, phrases or inquiries I frequently find references and links to many online forumes- sometimes this one and other photography types. There are also forums on audio gear, amateur radio, computers, music, power tools, basket weaving, quilting, sewing, stamp collecting and just about anythg you can think of. Photography magazines with Q&A columns are rapidly disappearing so what's wrong with asking questions on online forumes? Even elementary ones!

In this this cases, if you "GOOGLE "Photographic Filters" and you end up on the websites of various manufacturers and retailers via links, nobody's gonna tell you not to use filters- that's what they sell. If you end up on Wikipedia- that will tell you what filter are but there won't be pros and cons and differences of opinion. Sometimes even user manuals for cameras and accessories are TERRIBLE! Little local camera shops where "brotherly" advice used to be dispensed in the past are mostly gone and given way to the big-box dealers.

If you think a question is too basic, redundant or overly discussed elsewhere on the forum you can just ignore it or provide a link to the applicable threads. Why engage in rough stuff?- it's a waste of time! Also newcomers to this site may not know all the ropes as yet and telling someone, in effect, to "buzz off and do your homework" kind thing is indeed inhospitable. It's alright to tell someone that they have a frequently asked question and simply proved a fast answer or a quick link- it takes more time to tell them off! Then the "gang-bangers" join in and the entire thread deteriorates.

Abraham,

Just a couple of observations. First, no one has responded that they did NOT use a protective filter (e.g., UV) and the front lens element got scratched. In fact, while I'm sure it has happened, I've never heard anyone say that they scratched the front element of their lens because they didn't use a filter. Anyone out there want to tell us about that happening? If so, what were the circumstances? In sand or dust storm? Salt spray from the beach? Maybe you only need to put a filter on in extreme circumstances. I've seen several demonstrations where the lens was repeatedly gouged and banged without a filter and no scratches. I've also seen demonstrations where the filter glass caused extra lens flare...when bright lights/sunlight are shining directly into the lens.

Second, it would help us if you use the Quote Reply button when you reply to a specific person so we know who you are replying to. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for posting your query.

Hi everyone, does an UV filter on a lens may affect the image quality in some minimal degree,I’m using one just to protect the front elements of my lens, but I’m just curious ,quality glass is what determines the image quality of a lens, but Can the UV filter affect it in some way ??

Maybe if you compare pictures side by side with whatever image viewer you use ,you wouldn’t notice much of a difference, but when in photoshop and doing heavy post processing....that’s another story ,there’s a big difference on how far you can pull sliders without compromise image quality,as I said before I had a 7200 for over a year and 3 days ago I bought the D750 and the difference is noticeable,a lot noticeable, this is my first fx camera and I’m impressed,I agree that if you don’t need fx there’s no reason ,but there’s a difference and a noticeable one ,whether people want to accept it or not

Hello,I have a D7200 for a year now and just two days ago I bought the 750 and now I disagree with everybody that says that it’s almost unnoticeable the difference,it is noticeable and a lot, yesterday I went to Miami’s downtown to do some test with the 750 and when I transfer the images to my pc and open them in photoshop I was amazed by the difference ,super clean images even at iso 2200,with the D7200 at iso 400 the noise is noticeable ,with iso 2200 in the D750 the images were cleaner than the D7200 at iso 400,I used the same lens on both,so there’s no difference there,if you don’t post process your images you’ll not see any difference, but when it comes to that it does make a big difference,

Thanks everyone for your help,10 minutes ago I was at a Nikon certified repair store for a lens calibration and they weren’t able to calibrate it properly, they told me to send it back and get another one,so that’s what I’m going to do,just praying not to get any other surprise with the other one ,so disappointed with tamron so far ,have a great day

Hi everyone,I just recently bought the tamron 70-200 f2.8 sp G2 lens, bought it new from Best Buy ,I’m using single focus mode ,for example I’m taking a full body picture, focus point in the face and the pictures came out totally out of focus ,I realized that the lens was focusing a little back of the subject because of the grass on the floor was very sharp ,I did some af tune on the camera and I went all the way to -20,that’s the limit on the scale, with that af tune the problem is less noticeable but for example if I focus on the eyes ,they are sharp but I can notice that the sharper zone is in the necklace or the shoulders,I don’t know if there is something else I can do to fix this problem, very frustrated,I appreciate any help ,thanks 👍🏻
