I acquired the Pentax system in late 70's, because the photographer was advised by some German magazines to shift to Nikon. My collection includes ME super Body with the standard 50mm lens, 135mm telephoto lens, 100mm macro lens and a 80-200mm zoom lens: all original Pentax-make, and quite a few filters, adapters, multipliers, lens hoods, tripod, cable releases, vivitar flash.

I had carried the whole stuff with me during two decades of my official tours and taken lots and lots of transparencies, which I used to get processed in Italy thanks to my oft-traveling photographer friend. The system worked with no hitch even in my Jammu-Ladakh-Srinagar trek traversing glaziers, scaling 19000+ ft high Umashila Pass in the Himalayas.
Now that the digital era has dawned, I am in the process of acquiring the Pentax K-r with the standard 35-80mm zoom.

Even now whenever I see Nikon in movies, commercials, documentaries, I have the yearning like our yearning for Alfa-Romeo, Rolex, etc. That is the power of the media!

Keep your chin up and go creative, bracket your shots, maintain a log of data and I am sure with the creative comments of our fellow UglyHedgeHogs, you will derive maximum benefit from the Pentax itself.

Incidentally the company has changed hands and the new owners Ricoh may continue improving the lineage of Asahi Pentax.
