WillC200, don't know how you got this photo. At home or else?

If at home if you do not know–give them hamburger with calcium. We use cuttlebone from the pet stores. It will give them the calcium which straight meat from the market will not provide.

Without calcium they w/get 'Ricketts' which they need to prevent crippling, etc.

Ours come into our home and wait at the fridge because they know we keep food in there. They get on our knees, our shoulders, but we can never touch them!

Never! Never! Down ever let others attempt to grab, pester or scare them. This is how we keep them tame & keep them coming. There is a book, 'Roadrunners', Author Dan ?Bauman? that you can get thet is real informative-full of pictures.

You may already know these manners. But if new you may appreciate them.

canonclicker, this shot was taken at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park in Albuquerque, NM. The bird hopped up on the ledge from the opposite side of the bird blind I was in. Having a long lens on my camera, I had to back up to get this much of him in the frame. FWI, I never even think about touching the birds I photograph, or any wildlife.

I have the EM1X and it is a fantastic camera. I agree with all the positive comments others have made about Olympus products. If you are testing the camera’s image stabilization, my advice to you would be to test it with a longer lens than the 12-40mm. I would suggest the 40-150mm. I am 82 years old and mainly a bird photographer. For birds, I usually use the Olympus 300mm lens (hand held but sometimes with a monopod) and find the IS more than adequate.

My wife and I will be retiring and moving to New Mexico soon.

Do any NM natives have any tips for getting a photo of a Road Runner?
Every time I have seen them, they appear, then are gone in a millisecond.
Hard to get a shot off.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

I took this shot at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park in Albuquerque a couple years ago. This guy jump up on the sill of the bird blind I was in. Having a long lens on my camera, I had to back away from him to get this shot. Here’s wishing you a happy retirement.

Gorgeous shot--with flash, n'est-ce pas?

No flash. It was early morning and the bird was lighted with shadows behind him. Metering on the bird provided the night-time appearance to the background. Thanks for your comment.

As others have pointed out, without knowing what kit lenses you have it is hard to advise you. But a general guide that I use when addressing where to put my money wth regard to the camera body and lens is, “Date the body, marry the lens.”

I can see why you like it. The colors are wonderful and the subject is tack sharp with a nicely blurred background. I like the lighting that appears to be coming from below. It gives the bird and the complementary limb a moody effect that I like. On the down side, I find the grassy leaves in the bottom foreground a distraction from the subject. My eye keeps going to those leaves because they are so prominent in the photo. One other distraction for me are the trees in the right background. They appear to be leaning to the left. Maybe they were actually that way, but I doubt it. My critical comments not withstanding, it is a beautiful photo and I like it a lot.
