OK...interesting new info. As far as I've learned, having more memory and using a card reader does speed up the download...when I had the old Nikon D50, it downloaded quickly, so I suspected the problem has to do with the number of pixels.....I'm glad to know of Nikon Transfer, though! Nice info.

I understand that the USB port can take a 3, but not the other way around - a 3 can't take a 2....s'wat I heard today from B&H....

So many great responses...thanks all! I am upgrading memory and am getting a Transcend USB 3.0 multi card reader - the guy I talked with at B&H feels USB is actually better than firewire, at least the newer USB's.....I'll bet there are some differences of opinion about that, but this is what fits the mini I have and it's not expensive ($15.95). When I upgrade the computer, all that will be much better, but not yet. I haven't gone to another photo program yet, though will consider it....I'd like to see what iphoto looks like on Mt. Lion....I like the suggestions about what others are using.

Hedgehoggers are the best, not even ugly. Where did this name come from, BTW...anyone know???

I think I have it now....it's an OSX mac mini with only 1gb of memory which I'm upgrading to 4.....that should help - Mt. Lion needs at least 2 gb. The camera is Nikon 5200. I'm getting a firewire card reader.....do you have any other thoughts???

I have a Nikon 5200 with lots of pixels - downloading onto iphoto takes an eon. It's iphoto '08. Would it be faster with a more current iphoto??? I have Snow Leopard, switching to Mt. Lion today, hopefully. Thoughts??? Another program for photos, perhaps??? Thanks!!!

Magnificent - yes, it was pond water....and I did get the camera taken apart as quickly as possible - the next morning,(This morning) the card and battery seemed fine (for now, as you suggest) - but the lens is cloudy with small droplets - is there anyway to open the various parts of a telephoto lens? 35-200 (or so)...meanwhile, I get a pouch of gel....thanks sooooo much!!! If I recall correctly, we used to do a similar process many, many moons ago, soaking the print in a solution of (can't remember) and the image would actually separate from the paper backing, similar to a decal...we would then remove the paper from under the film image and slide a wood plaque under the image, lift the plaque once positioned to your liking, let dry, then it was coated with a clear coat product we used for protecting pencil or pastel drawings or just clear varnish.

Whooeee! What a memory!

Does anyone know a good, helpful place that reproduces photos on ceramic tile? I have a specific project in mind with specific parameters I have to follow for an art proposal in a gallery, so I need a place that can offer good technical assistance. A bonus would be a place in the East in case I'd need to travel. I would be eternally grateful!!! Libby
