I ask myself the same question often…I am a hobbyist…I do not print a lot of my images. I do not enter contests. I take classes and follow photographers I admire. I never get up before sunrise to get those sunrise, golden light shots, but always hope that I will wake up early enough one day to do so (my gear is always ready to go!).

I enjoy shooting many different kinds of things….depending on where I am. If I were to really focus on “what is my purpose in photography” and what I like best about my work, it would be simple images with clean lines and lots of negative space…and often in black and white….

May I suggest the following book to accompany your new camera. I have the Sony RX10 iv also, and found this book to be a HUGE help. It is written in plain English, is well organized, and covers the "why" as well as the "how to". for this camera. The link below is for informational purposes only. Just google the title to come up with less expensive sources.

Photo#2, great timing and capture. Shutter speed? ISO? Aperture?

Shutter was 1/60 @f.11 and ISO 100.

It’s the Brightline train and runs from Palm Beach to Miami at very high speed.

Have the Sony RX 10iv in my hands and took it out for a spin yesterday…wow!
Here are a few of my first images. Thank you to so many folks who responded and encouraged me in my post about my trepidation for trading in my heavy telephoto lens for this little workhorse!

You may want to consider the Nikon 70-300, which is not that expensive and would give you a field of view of about 135-450mm on your camera. You would also need the Nikon adapter since this is a DSLR lens. But it may be worth considering. This lens gets excellent reviews.

Billnikon….had this excellent lens with my d500…traded it, along with the d500, for the z150-500, which led me to returning it and purchasing the RX 10iv! Loved that lens on my heavier set up!

I think I have a perfect set up now. I have the Nikon z50 and three lenses(2 kit and the 18-140) for most parts of my hobby (scenery, architecture, street scenes) and with the RX 10iv for wildlife and nature, I think I will be very happy!

Thanks everyone for your ideas and support.

Everyone faces the reality of aging at one point or another. Feeling regret or envy is a waste of the few years you have left.

I hope you're able to reboot your attitude so you can experience the joy of the hobby and the awesome nature around you 🥰

Thanks, Linda….my attitude is great….it’s my biceps that need an adjustment!

I am a Nikon shooter and was excited to put the Tamron z 150-500mm lens on my z50. I was ready to do more wildlife and birds in flight photography until I spent some time with this beautiful beast….it is too darn heavy for me to hold still and I am not inclined to lug a tripod around when I get the urge to shoot some wildlife when I am close to nature. At 75 I admit I am not as strong as I’d like and holding that lens isn’t getting easier.

So I am returning it to Adorama today and exchanging it for the Sony cyber shot RX10 IV. I guess a bridge camera isn’t so bad….(right?)…..and it sure will make my sometimes forays into nature a little easier. I just hope I don’t have pangs of regret and envy when I encounter folks with those big, beautiful telephoto lens in the field.🥹

I have the chance to buy a Tamron 150-500 mm z lens for a full frame Nikon mirrorless camera. I have the z50 which is not full frame. I know that you can put fx lenses on dx bodies, but is the same true for full frame z lenses on a crop sensor body like the z50?

Try using the "filter by section" option just above all the entries, to then look at entries from just 1 section at a time.

Thanks, that helps a lot!

Not a fan. Why would I want to scroll through endless titles to find a topic in Main Photography Discussion section? Don’t have time for this…and will need to visit site less and less if format stays as is.

Can someone give a logical explanation for this change? There is no order to posting topics randomly and it is most frustrating.

A image I captured with my IPhone 13, using the RAW app for IPhone. Terrific storms last evening in Saratoga County, NY pulled us all off the golf course. I happened to shoot this from the grill room covered porch when the eerie yellow clearly peeked out of the clouds just as I was getting ready to make the shot.

Had my z50 and the 15-140 z lens with me this week in Fernandina Beach, Fla, and Beaufort, SC. I took all my shots at sunset without a tripod and some from a moving boat. The images did not disappoint! Every time I think I want to upgrade to a full frame model, I realize that this little z50 and this z Len is just perfect for me when I travel. Here are a few of my favorites. Shot RAW files and post processed in LR on my IPad!

Hi, Everyone! I hope I’m posting in the correct area. Last year, I bought the intro Nikon Z50. Basically to replace my Nikon D7200. As I get older, the weight of the camera inflames the arthritis in my hands at times. It seems that Mirrorless is the way of the future, but I’m having a hard time getting used to the Z50. It’s lightweight and easy to understand and operate, but I miss using my D7200, which I still have by the way. I was considering selling it to KEH. Do you guys feel like the DSLR is soon to be a camera of the past? I actually bought the adaptor and use most of my F mount lenses. Just wondering how many of you are using a Nikon Z camera and your thoughts about them. Thanks!

I have the z50 and a d500 love them both for different reasons. I use the d500 for wildlife, close to home photo ops. I got the z50 and the kit lenses for travel. I also bought the z18-150 for travel. The two systems are all I need for my photography. The weight difference is amazing and the images off the z50 are as good as, and sometimes better than those on my DSLR.
