My first camera was a d40x and I bought the 70 - 300 lens soon after. It worked great. I still have the lens and currently use a d5100. Works great there also. Look for a used/refurb is good condition. You won't be disappointed.

I took some photos of our grand nephew's baseball game last week-end with my manual focus lens. About half of them were in focus.
Thanks,
Bob

I have a Tamron 70-300mm lens, but it is not auto focus. This is for my Nikon D40.
I want an auto focus 70-300 auto focus lens.
Has anyone seen one lately? And what do you suppose my lens is worth?

Yeah, it's the lens I thought it was, a 28mm F3.5. The aperture range goes from F3.5 thru to F22... The 1.5 to 15 you cited is the focus distance scale. It focuses from 1 foot to infinity (the last measured distance prior to infinity is 15 foot)In meters, that is .3 meters to 5 meters (white lettering under the orange US scale)

OK. Looks like I don't know what I'm talking about, but thank you anyway.

Konica never made an F 1.5 lens, nor did their lenses have an F15 aperture... I have a number of older Konica bodies & lenses. I use the lenses on an Olympus Pen E-P3 with an adapter...Post the exact nomenclature as found on the front of the lens so it can be properly identified...

Konica is a dead mount. You can find adapters to fit to some other camera brands, but it's not that rare of a lens (I have one too). Someone might adapt it to a mirrorless camera, but Then again maybe not as it is an F3.5...Looks like they have been selling for $10 to $40 on eBay...

Thank you for the reply.

Konica Hexanon are highly regarded. However, you did not mention the largest aperture, which is a critical piece of inforamation. They are quite popular to the people who choose to fiddle with old MF lenses of good quality. Too much work for me, but still popular.

You find them readily on eBay and can get an idea of price by looking there.

The aperture is 1.5 to15.
Thanks for the reply.

Choppbobby - yes, indeed the Canyon Rd to Ellensburg! Do you know where the eagle's nest is, just beyond the Canyon River Ranch (resort)? Just north of the nest. I haven't seen you on UHH before![/quote]
I ride the Canyon a lot on my motorcycle, and I know the spot that you are referring to. I see people all the time taking photos with their telephoto lenses.
I am not into photography as much as I used to, so I don't even carry my Nikon D40 unless it is a special event. I carry a cheap digital camera, and of course my cell phone takes pictures, but not very good ones.
I've been a member here for about 3 years, but I haven't posted anything for a while.
BTW Very nice photos.

Doogie, you need to read this whole thread and find out about this boy and his mother. I'm sure a dirty, old, used, K1000 would be looked as a threat to her family control. This boy's grandfather (the OP) is fighting an uphill battle against a controlling parent.

His mother bought him a Fuji camera.
[I tried it, and it ain't too bad of a camera.
Bobquote=doogie]If I was in your position I would do what I did. Picked up an old Pentax K1000, a 28mm, a 50mm, a 74-204mm lens, and a set of Cokin B/W filters. Ran me more than a hundred dollars but to quote a few others here: "It was the King of cameras for photography students in its day"

The one I picked up was in excellent condition and turned out to be one of the early japan runs. Solid rugged and almost 100% metal parts and fittings. It has worked well.

Hope that helps a little.
