I don't think you will need a tripod, but be sure you go up to the top of Paradise Point in St. Thomas, the view is incredible and great shooting spot!! Enjoy!!
Nice Shots of downtown on a clear day with Mt. Hood in the background from Washington Park, Also, head to the coast, Pacific City has good rock formations as well as Cannon Beach has the infamous Haystack Rock, and all along the coast, good shooting.
Thanks for your negative comments, I will be sure not to post any more of my "snapshots" again. Don't want to offend you "professionals"!! Have a nice day.
I used to shoot Raw plus JPEG with my D800, got 280 shots per 32gig card, went to JPEG alone, and went to 950 shots per card. Attached are two JPEG shots, taken with my D800 and Nikkor 28mm - 300mm VRII that were tweaked just a bit by the lab I use, and printed on 30inch by 40 inch metal, and both are tack sharp. I hate sitting in front of a computer, so for me, I would rather go shoot, and shoot lots, and let the lab tweak the ones I wish to print!

Oregon Coast, November, 2015
I just lay my D800 on the ground, aim up, and it usually takes a shot or two to get it, doesn't work with sports, but does with stationary objects.
Windmill Island, Holland Michigan
I used to shoot raw + JPEG, I only shoot JPEG now, attached (if it worked) is a picture of me with two of my pictures printed on metal, the one on the left is 28 inches x 38 inches, and the one on the right is 20 x 30 inches, taken with a Nikon D800 with a Nikkor 28mm to 300mm VRII lens. IN JPEG! They are crystal clear, and look great, and my lab did the PP on them not me. I only shoot JPEG now, don't want to mess with the computer, would rather shoot, let the lab fix the ones I wish to print.
Me and two of my Metal shots!!
Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson, great book, all you need to understand how to shoot manual!!
Some shots of the Okenagan Valley, the Big Lake and the beautiful scenery. Loved it there, hope you all can go you will love it!!!
A shot of Lake Marriane, and of a scene along the Icefield Highway between Jasper and Banff, taken in July 2010. Beautiful place, also spent time on this trip in the Okenaghan Valley of British Columbia, wineries galore there, beautiful if you can go that far west!!! Have a great trip
I shoot with a D800 and the 28 - 300 VR II and love it, this shot was taken with it, I have it blown up to 28" by 38" inches in my condo and it is tack sharp, and I am very proud of it!! Never used the 24 - 120, but I love my 28-300.
Great Shots ducwic, really interesting when you encounter one of these babies out in the middle of Lake Michigan at midnight, sailing across the lake!! When they put on all their lights, it is a sight to see!!!
Just thought you would all like to see a few of my shots that I have printed on Metal for my condo. The first one is a 28 x 38 inch shot of the Calder Plaza in downtown Grand Rapids that was also chosen for a calendar by my bank, and the second is a 20 x 30 inch shot of a Trillium I took last summer. I now have three others and just love them. What do you think? Suggestions welcome. Thanks for looking.
Hello and welcome from a fellow Michigander, have summered at Torch Lake for years, love it around you, Charlevoix, and Petosky area!!
Thanks to you all for your comments, yes the lower right railing was removed in PP, this is the raw photo, also some adjust on the buildings but not much, this shot was taken with my D800, 18 x 35 mm Nikkor wide angle lens, with a 30 second exposure, f/22, ISO 800, on tripod. We also were able to extract some stars in the sky in post, am waiting patiently to get it back from the lab!! Thanks to all for the look, and happy new year
