The Tribune just sent an update that includes some details:

The southbound lanes of the major lakefront thoroughfare will close from Randolph Street to the Museum Campus beginning June 28. Lane reductions will extend farther: Traffic will be reduced to two lanes at North Avenue, then to one lane at Chicago Avenue. Downtown traffic will be directed to exit at Michigan Avenue, and through traffic will be directed to exit at Grand Avenue. Between Grand and Randolph, only local traffic will be allowed.

Northbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive will be closed along the same downtown stretch beginning July 1. Traffic will be reduced to two lanes at 47th Street, then one lane near 31st Street. Northbound traffic will be required to exit at I-55.

Access will remain open to Navy Pier and the Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium and other attractions on the Museum Campus, though some of the museums have adjusted their hours.

Thanks for that information. We will be leaving out of there on June 23, so maybe we can avoid some of that mess.

Thanks John! Let me temper your expectations. I haven't been down to the Buckingham area since Memorial Day, and access to the area seemed to be closed-off then. We're running a NASCAR race thru / around Grant Park in early July and I think that area is now all fenced off. I'm not 100%, but do want to caution to be prepared. Head out to Navy Pier for evening shots, as a plan B, or take an evening / sunset architecture tour on the many boat options.

Thanks for the heads up. That's disappointing!! But there are other options I will explore. Have they closed Lake Shore Drive??

CHG_CANON, I am a fan of your photography. You are fortunate to live in a place that provides plenty of great places to shoot. I will be in Chicago next week and I am going to try to take some night shots near Buckingham fountain. That is if time permits.

Hello, just wanted to share a few more shots from the Horse Track. These horses were uncooperative on this day. It was fun to watch the riders fight to restrain them. And, I did witness an incident where a spectator came within inches of receiving a blow from a kicking horse. It was very scary to say the least. It would have been bad for her.
OK, I will admit it, being the big chicken that I am, I backed up about 6 feet and used my zoom lens.

Made it back to the Horseshoe race track today in Indianapolis. The city is experiencing the haze from the Canadian wildfires. YUK!!! Wasn’t sure how my images would turn out, but I was happy with some of them. I know that bright sunshine is not always the best for taking images outdoors. So, I thought the haze might produce a different perspective. Here is a post of a few. BTW, the air smells terrible here.

You might try calling the Speedway Credentials Dept. @ 1-317-492-6500. Pit passes have become much more available since the "old" days. Gold badges are required on Race Day while silver used to get you in during practice and qualification.

Thanks David, I will do that.

Don, yes and no. People with pit passes could roam the pit area. However, the general fan could stand behind the fences at the pit area. Not as good. I wish I knew how to obtain a pass in order to navigate the pit area unrestricted.

During the month of May, I like to visit the Indianapolis Motor on Fast Friday. The day before qualification. This place it truly a magical place. You can feel it as you venture through it. If you have ever been there, you will know what I am saying.

However, I must say that I was a little disappointed with the picture taking experience. Back in 1987, there was a terrible accident where a wheel from one of the race cars struck and killed a fan. Since then, they have constructed fences around the track to prevent this unfortunate event to ever happen again.

Makes it nearly impossible to get good clear shots of the fast-moving Indy cars. My camera keeps trying to focus on the fence wiring.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy some of the shots I did get. I got a few of some of the track legends.

Thanks!!

Had the opportunity to visit the Churchill War Rooms in London England. Here are a few shots from inside. Very interesting place, highly recommended if you get the chance.
During the Second World War, a group of basement offices in Whitehall served as the centre of Britain’s war effort. The complex, known as the Cabinet War Rooms, was occupied by leading government ministers, military strategists and Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
When the war ended, everyone just walked out, left everything. My understanding is that most of the equipment is just as they left it to this day.

Emotional and Serene indeed. Been their many times. The most impressive is when your in attendance for a funeral. They pull out all the stops. The Horse and gun Turrets and the precision of everyone is beyond what you would think. I recreantly attended one for a close friend that was a retired Navel Chaplin and also got stationed at Arlington for some time. May they all RIP

WOW, that's interesting. Thanks for the information regarding the Horse and gun turrets. I would love to see that. We were just tourist trying to take in as much as we could.
