The “high end” lenses for mirrorless bodies are indeed no lighter than the DSLR “high end” lenses, but the FF mirrorless Sony bodies are significantly lighter than the FF DSLR bodies and I’ll take it when I can. I just need to figure out whether I can deal with the EVF.

If one checks the actual domestic sales (of your items) on eBay, subtract the eBay fee, subtract the PayPal fee, subtract your actual shipping cost, shipping supplies, time to shot photos of your items, and etc., the real price difference between letting KEH buy my equipment was only a nominal difference of only 10-20%. Not even worth it when I had a day job and certainly not worth my “retired” life style doing photography.

If one argues that Rembrandt could paint pretty well with any tools available at the time and that Ansel Adams could take great photos with any camera, I submit it means a great talent would do better with better tools! Great tools in the hands of great people produce greatness. However, great tools in itself does not produce greatness.

It depends on your equipment. The nice thing is that KEH swill give you a DIY web quote to give you an idea. I have been surprise by how much I once got and the latest I was disappointed, I will try once more to sell some gear on UHH and then send it to KEH if it doesn’t go here.

As an I also age I am also looking (lusting) at the new Sony A7rIV and selling off part if not all of my extensive Pentax FF and APC bodies with current and past legacy glass. When at exhibitions I liked what I saw with the A7rIII but I will still want to rent one before for a week or two with a good going over to get the feel of the mirrorless viewfinder “feel”. I liked the EVF of the A7rIII but not the EVR of the A7III and wouldn’t change if that was their only EVR. And yes the Sony AR7 system will allow the use of most other lenses with adapters but you may loose auto aperture control and AF control.

Selling to KEH is an excellent manner to get rid of all what you want in a single no hassle transaction. Yes, you take a hit of up to 50% but it’s over and you don’t have to worry about parlaying equipment in likely many single transactions, collecting revenue (taking another possible hit with PayPal), and all the cost and time of shipping. On the KEH website you can get an estimated quote of what your collection will get you. Selling a larger collection of gear with many items is a part time job! I have tried it before. I do suggest listing items here on UH, but I have not had much success.

Thanks for the info

You’re welcome. The rolling backpack is very versatile by far. It can be loaded with a lot of equipment and computer to roll around AND can use as a convenient (though heavy) backpack when the road turns into a trail. Happy trails!

I guess dark is relative... there can't be large cities close by (hundreds of miles) and "dark" designated areas have local regulations about having NO artificial light pointing directly upwards. All artificial lights from public, commercial, and private properties must be pointed downwards and not towards the sky.

I have two rolling carry on camera bags. One is a carry on suitcase and the other is a rolling back pack. Both are from Lowepro. The rolling pack back is the Model 450 RW something. The rolling Suitcase is RL 1500. Caution: either cannot of these (should not) cannot be considered your smaller personal bag. I tried once with Lowepro 450 as my small personal back pack with another roll aboard and was scolded by the flight attendant, but I was in First Class. If you fill the Lowepro 450, it will not fit into the overhead bins. This bag though heavy when filled is awesome. I do not often use it as a back pack anymore and that’s why I added the Lowepro RL1500 camera suitcase which will fit in the overhead bins.

At an event shoot, such as a wedding or convention, there is usually a place to safely store stuff with close by access. That's also what spouses are for (besides other things). :-)

When I travel to nature shoots via plane and car, I need to first pack for all that I might need on all the different shoots I've planned. For aircraft travel I always and only do carry on for bodies and glass. (the tripod and clothing gets to be checked luggage). For carry on, I always use at least one rolling camera padded case or rolling backpack and a smaller camera padded backpack. The smaller camera back pack also becomes my bag on the actual shoot. Sometimes I also add a soft camera bag in my checked luggage (that is packed with clothing). This also allows for an easy small walk around bag. Also when it's a week plus long road photo trip, I now have added a collapsible wagon into my own vehicle to easily transport all the luggage to and from the hotel room at one time. This saves time and my arthritic bones! The collapsible wagon was an awesome added accessory on a recent road trip. I have an upcoming road trip that includes a shoot for a Gala Ball, and I will need to bring the umbrella lighting. The collapsible wagon will greatly help and easily transport all the gear from the car to the venue at one time.

Can anyone advise whether a special “photo” only tour offers better photo shoots or are all tours effectively photo tours.

Also for anyone who took specialized “photo” tours, did anyone ever feel there was any drama of one person always hogging the best position in vehicles? I am also planning a trip soon.

I also have too many bags. While I have liked PD gear, I resisted on the larger bags until the PD 20L bag. As you mentioned, the idea of all the removable dividers makes it seem useful for other purposes, I have found the origami folding dividers clever and they are actually very stiff and limit how much gear one is able to stuff into a bag safely so that lenses are not touching each other. The bags are elegantly designed but simply do not hold as much naked gear safely without fear of things banging together.
