I used to have flocks of wild turkeys (2-3 dozen) and small herds of deer (6 -10 in number) visit my field that had old apple trees that still produced a bounty of small apples. The big turkeys would fly up to the larger uppermost branches, flap their wings vigorously to shake apples down, and the turkey hens and deer would stand around the tree waiting for the largess to rain down. Over the years the trees withered and stop producing so I have cut the wood up for firewood. I still get a few turkey and deer visitors but they are disappointed at the paucity of edibles from the field. By the way, wild turkeys are good flyers as when spooked entire flocks would take to the air 60-80 feet above my old two story farm house.
