Steve,
First, thank you for running the contests. I have enjoyed looking at them and seeing other people's work. For me, I will echo a comment some others have made, the reason I do not participate is the 7 day window. I do not understand why you have it or what purpose it serves, if I took the photo, isn't that all that matters? Once you had a category of wood and I remembered some nice wood fence pictures I had taken in Colorado, I even tried to enter one thinking maybe the 7 day rule was more of a suggestion but you booted my picture which is fine, it certainly was not taken in the past week and so did not comply with the rule. Perhaps you would be so kind as to explain the reasoning to me. I suppose others have more free time than I do but I can't always take a picture on topic that week, or I do not have great subject matter on topic near my home. Anyway I do look at them and enjoy looking at the contests but have not been able to participate.
Heidi
Congratulations, it's a great shot! I've been learning a lot here as well and just entered my first contest.
Very dramatic, I like it.

Thanks Rich here are a couple of pics I took of my sons new kitten Waffles
Those are very nice. I have the most trouble with pet photos, mine are in constant motion. Here is the best one I got of my dog Eddie so far, I'm still trying!

Glad it brought you some joy. It isn't always about technical perfection, sometimes its just capturing a great moment, that makes you smile!

Love the top photo. Can see the movement, the water drops. Love the focus. This is one of those on-the-spot photos that are so hard to take, and you've done it!
Thank you. I just keep trying, eventually I get a keeper.

#2 - a portrait of pure joy!
I remember the first time I saw a video of how dogs shake off water, starting at head and going down their body to tail - pretty cool.
Thanks. Glad you liked it.

Hello I have been reading the the Hedge for at least a couple of years now and it has been very interesting. I signed up in May because many of the topics that I read I would like to add my two cents. I have computer and Photography skills that i hope to be able to add to the forums.
Welcome. Do you have an image or two to share?

Hello. Lovely shots. I'm dreaming of that Tamron lens. Do you like it? How long have you had it? Can you hand hold it or do you always need a tripod?
Thanks
