Just a year and a week later I happen to read your reference to the website for Pixlr that you posted. I am impressed. I took an old 1965 shot I made in Vietnam and did a couple touch ups with that software and albeit it may look gaudy, but I like it. In fact I sent the photo and the website to a good friend up on the Oregon post and he too has had some success and happiness with that software.
Will try and show you the shot that I worked on. Saigon Waterway Living
Thanks again. Roger

Always enjoy those winter scenes from the Canyon. I am about 4 hours drive from there, but never go there in the winter.

Great shot of the Tetons. However, I found a photo of the Tetons yesterday, that is one of the best that I have seen. I have been there twice 1947 and then again in 1966. The photo was here yesterday but gone now, or at least I cannot find it. It is a great landscape shot. I thought perhaps you had submitted it. It was taken October 2006. I hope some one reads this and can help me find the shot again. Thanks. Roger

Interesting subject. I have had great success with an Epson Perfection 4990 Photo, scanner. I probably have done at least 5,000 slides. It does 8 slides which are imported to Photoshop software for any editing desired on the computer. Very little success with anything other than Kodachrome . I lose maybe 1 out of 30 that I can not fix with my procedure. If the slide is bad, it is difficult to do much correcting. Unfortunately, I went through a period where I only took photos instead of slides. I think my oldest slides were taken in the late 50s .

This is a photo of some housing in a suburb of Saigon circa 1965

I am sure there is a lot of photographic talent responding here, but I think it would be a waste of money to replace the 2.8 lens with the l.4 lens. Many years ago, I did something like that, bought a Leica f1.5 and found that I could shoot with less light and get good shots, but no great improvement to my f2.8 lens. Today one has fantastic ISO settings available, great tripods and in many instances you can edit or manage the result with photoshop or some other software. Good Luck

Sacramento was a great place when we lived there in 1971. Don't remember the weather lady , but you were right in between the Bay Area and Reno. I understand today the traffic is four hours each way, if you drive it at its peak. Some of the best fishing in the world was around there and northward or eastward. I was in the Veterans Day parade there that year and it was fantastic, but there were many calls from the spectators, "How many kids did you kill over there in Vietnam". About the only unpopular thing I remember living there except for the Proctor and Gamble smell from the factory we almost lived on top of.

Photos of water flow and the mist inherent with it, are some of my favorites. I think the middle shot is certainly perfect. it would claim applause by most anyone. I am guessing that the time of day for these shots is before the sun is out. Beautiful trio of photos. Well Done.

Seeing the comments here tells me that I obviously did communicate my problem with adjusting size of cell phone shots that can accompany my DSLR photos in similar size.

I have read many of the posts here on the DSLR vs the cell phone. Lots of repetitive language and words. I graduated from a used French box camera on the streets of Vienna in January 1946 to Canons and Nikons with their great DSLR use. Only in the past several years have I tried to use a Cell Phone as a camera. My uses of the latter are very similar to most of you writers. However, I have yet to discover how to size the cell phone 5312. x 2988 to the other cameras 5184 x 3456.' I find that in many instances the crop is difficult and my Photo Shop Elements doesn't know what to do. Is it better to shoot in portrait vs landscape with the Cell phone? Or am I just missing something? This cell phone photo of Helsinki harbor has not been edited with my PS Elements.

I have lived in AZ for 22 years, and have probably been to the Canyon a dozen times, but your photo is very striking and unusual. I applaud your effort at going there in the winter. If there were a prize for a Canyon shot, this would surely be in the running. Great job. Roger

I seldom post here, but I find that there are some excellent posts that one can learn from by reading them. I think the title for the subject is a misnomer, but all of us make choices when we have the two ways to decide the device they are going to employ to take a picture. I have been with camera in hand for 72 years, starting with a French box camera on the streets of Vienna Austria , Jan 1946. One of the greatest loves of my life,"photography". I have only had Android cell phones the past four years, and currently use a Samsung Note 8. Cell phone camera, I have it in the car wherever I go, as it is my media to call 911 or a tow truck etc. It is not in the car to take photos, but I have used it many times as a camera. Going to a party, take your cell phone.

However, going on a cruise, get out the Canons and at least three or four lenses, trips, the same equipment and for any other special reason, I plan to take photos, I have the DSLR capability. Of course, the cell phone is also there but purposely to send or receive calls. I don't ever remember taking a DSLR in the car unless I was purposely going to take photos.

This is a great vehicle for photo discussion.

Just another comment on photo editing. I have yet to see anything that was as simple as Photoshop Elements for the normal editing process. Years ago there was a free editing software, I think developed by someone in Sweden. You could download it from the web and it worked wonders on bringing photos to life. I have owned many cameras, Leicas, Contax, Retinea, Voightlander, Canon, Nikon and more, and there is no doubt in my mind that virtually any photo taken with any camera can be improved with editing. You can look me up and find that I started this wonderful business of photography with a French box camera on the streets of Vienna, Austria circa January 1946. The basic principles have not changed.

I have seldom ever posted or read the items in this website, but the correspondence here appealed to my curiosity. Never realized how some people edit their photos. Years ago I acquired a software, Adobe Photoshop 7 , I believe. Never fully learned how to use it, and bought Photoshop Elements 3, went to monthly classes on how to use it. I became fairly adept with it and as the years went by, updated until PSE 8, which I have and still use. I am sure there are many things that I have forgotten how to use because of my inactivity in taking pictures. I am thinking now of updating to the latest version in 2018. I have transferred thousands of slides to digital taken as long ago as 1950. Should I be exploring something else as the initial writer seemed to say?

A place that very few remember. I like the shot, has a bit of a mysterious look. The number of people that remember that effort goes down every day. What a disaster. As I remember everyone wanted to know the Body Count. Johnson and White House strategists. Life in this country changed after that war. I remember being in an area near Saigon where there were lots of houses on stilts. I took some photos there, late 1965. This is from an old slide using a Nikon F Photomic T.
