Hello
When I want a wide composition, I shoot vertical photos in a row and stitch them together. My favorite is an 8 photo panorama shot of Half Dome with the Super Moon. I used photoshop to stitch the photos together. It is printed to 16"x60" (249MB). I had to reduce the size and resolution to fit the 20MB requirements of this site.Enjoy!

That is one of the best images I’ve seen on UHH. Magnificent. Congratulations.

This is a fantastic shot. There are several crops within that are very strong images as well and I think you should pursue them. The boy. And the dudes working. As it is you have a great image and I believe you have maybe 4 more great images inside this one. Hope you had a lot of mpx so you can take advantage of this opportunity.

Congratulations. I wish I had shot this. Or had the opportunity.

Graham, I admire your work so much. I wish I could make images like yours; you are absolutely gifted. I think of you often when I’m trying to make an image. This is a magnificent piece of work. So frequently I feel images need a person in it to give emotion or scale. You’ve taken the human image, light and scale and made them a masterwork. If I had time and money I’d come to England to meet you. The lottery drawing isn’t until Wednesday.

What’s the mount on that beautiful thing? I’m looking for a fast 35 to put on my Sony e mount.
Thanks

Thank you.
I confess that I prefer the tracks but I agree with you The this crop fills the frame better

When I get home I’ll play with some crops and if I can make one that gets us a satisfying compromise I’ll call it a success.

Why did you crop the left side of the photo?

The lights seemed at the edge and so were distracting rather than leading. Thank you for the quick reply.

Thank you ALL for looking. Everyone who responded to the image I presented felt that a tighter crop would help. I also did a quick clone to remove the light at the right. Yes I am aware this can be more skillfully accomplished but not when you're late for work!

My effort to enlarge the people was so horrendous that I wouldn't subject you it.

It's been a long time but I'd like to submit this FYC. Taken hand held. You'll notice the slightly burned out highlights at the bottom right. I found that trying to tone down that effect unbalanced the image and so left the light pretty hot.

Dpullam may appreciate that I shot this with a Sony RX 100iii.
Graham may like the skaters. I do wish they had more definition but I like them as part of the image rather than the subject.

Ive been shooting and processing more so perhaps I'll contribute more in the future. I am really happy to see the site emphasizing learning and sharing lately. It's a welcome development.

Hi Sharpshooter
I recently asked the Hogs for their advice on PortraitPro. I was getting lost on the layers and adjustments in PS for retouching. I think you’ll like PortrtPro.
Try the sample saftware, consider the batch processing they offer in the Professional package. I have a feeling you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Bob Marlarz will tell you that you can do this all for free with PS, And he’s right. But I was spending too much time.

Are you starting off your edit by ramping up the contrast quite a lot? If you are it might be an idea to ease off with the contrast and try to give it more contrast by using the tones sliders (shadows/highlights/blacks/whites/brightness).

If you add too much contrast too soon it can force too much of the mid-tones into the shadows and highlights. Do you think you're losing too much to the shadows? if so you could try giving it an overall lightening and then proceed from there with the tones sliders.

Thank you for looking R.G.
I'm fairly certain I did add too much contrast, and this is indeed the most likely reason I'm unsatisfied with the midtones of this image. Contrast was used before and after conversion. Generally I reduce highlights and increase shadows prior to conversion. I do like the idea of increasing the light/exposure as I work on the raw file again.

And when you’ve done that, it often happens a touch of clarity (if you’re in Lr) helps the b&w conversion. Nice shot.

Thank you magnetoman. I DID use clarity here, I don't like the funny halos I get sometimes, but should be interesting as I start over on this image.

I like it. One thing you may wish to try is starting from the RAW file make all the corrections to bring up the mid tones and do the B&W transition as the last step.

Thank you Dave.

Tonight I'll open the raw file again and do everything I think the image needs prior to B&W conversion. Great idea.

I like Dave's suggestion of making corrections first. That might add enough contrast to make the whole image pop more. As it is, it is a bit flat. I think that is the problem. The composition, however, is really good. Don't give up on this one. Put it away for a few days and then start from the RAW or original image. There is a lot of potential here. The sky is wonderful and really adds to the photo. The rocks also point out how determined this person was to find just the right place to present his lure/bait to his prey. It's a good image.

Thank you Erich.

I tried some things to emphasize the sky but they seemed to overcook the image. I will start with the raw again and see about corrections first.
