Last August I bought a Promaster 7500 flash from a local camera store for my Canon 30D. I recently purchased a 7D and never gave it a thought that my flash wouldn't be compatible. It seemed to work for a few clicks, but then the communication stopped. I was told by two camera stores that I would need to send it in for un upgrade in order for it to work properly with my 7D. I decided to go on line and contacted Promaster directly. They verified that I could either send it directly to them or through a dealer. ($35 charge if the dealer sends it in) However, here is the kicker! Because my Flash is still under warranty, Promaster will replace it at no charge. I wanted to share this info in case anyone finds themselves in a similar situation.

thanks for that, I usually use AV and I shoot raw to photoshop and small jpg. So keep flash on auto,(one less thing to worry about, great)underexpose 1 stop? good idea, easier to pull thing up. Not sure why a bracket is so important, whats a few inches amongst friends? I notice that pros use them, I will check one out. Thanks very much, that has helped, I will post a couple of results, cheers

Using the bracket will give you a less harsh flash result, and will make it easier to shoot vertical shots without a lens shadow. Good luck!

Are you charging a sitting fee? It's not really fair to charge the first family a sitting fee and not the second family....so...."Oh, well, I'd certainly be happy to take your photos....let's just take a moment to go over the fee schedule..."

It's not a matter of being mean, it's being professional. You charge for everything you do. You don't give freebies.

I agree with Steve, I actually take advantage of this human nature trend and try to book extra related families at the same time. I charge a set fee for each "family or household" which includes a print package. It also helps to set boundaries and expectations with the client ahead of time.

You might also look into Perfect Photo Suite 6. It's around 300.00 but you won't believe all the options it gives you. Plus it's super easy to use.

Does this software apply watermarks/text?

No it does not.

It is NOT standalone software. It requires Photoshop, Lightroom, or Aperture as a host. It does not do basic stuff.

I did my first senior shoot last year after a 25 year break (long story) Out doors is so much easier and more interesting. Try to use places or props that have a special meaning to your senior. I have attached a couple of photos from my shoot. I used fill in flash and a large reflector.

Need some advice. I have a friend you needs a simple yearbook photo for her high school son. Requirments are such:

• Wallet sized, glossy photo (preferred, but digital pictures saved as a TIFF
• Vertical formatted photo
• Traditional headshots preferred, indoor or outdoor. (For greatest photo reproduction quality.)

Any suggestions for the background? Outside/Inside. I don't have a professional backdrop, but planned on getting one anyway.

I would like to see it cropped even tighter up on the legs just so the hind leg does not show. As a horse breeder and horse show photographer, the second crop fights correct conformation of the horse at first glance. I agree that the second version seems washed out.

I had to start using trifocals when I was about 40. Now I'm 45 and my close up vision gets a little worse every year. I know this is a common problem but it is especially bothersome when trying to take pictures. I cannot look through the viewfinder with my glasses on and I cannot see the histogram or any of the controls on the camera without them. I tried adjusting the diopter for my glasses but I just can't make that work. It's glasses up..glasses down 500 times. Sometimes it gets so frustrating I just pack it up and go home. I asked another photographer in my meet up group and his suggestion was to never get older than 40! That ship has sailed. Does anyone have any suggestions or would anyone at least like to co-miserate?

I know this isn't an option for everyone but I had LASIK surgery on one eye to eliminate my nearsighted problem. My other eye is used for reading and close up work. I was one of those people who could read if i removed my glasses. It took about 2 months for my brain to kick in. Of course there are risks but it was the greatest thing that I ever did for myself!
